FFVII for the win. Best game of all time in any genre.
Other good ones were FFVIII, Breath of Fire III, Resident Evil 1&2, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater (only sports game I ever got into since NES).

I dont think there is anything left to be added to this list
MGS
FF7/8
Tekkan
and SotN
they dont make many like that any more
Not that I miss sitting on my ass for weeks at a time…but Xenogears was one hell of a game.
No one has mentioned…Tomb Raider. Great game!
Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night is the absolute best game ever.
Seriously, I think I’ve played it through about a dozen times over the years…and it never gets old.
It’s now pretty much a collectors item game, sort of becoming rare. You can’t pick it up for any less than $40-50 used on Ebay, etc.
Other games:
Twisted Metal 2 - many hours of my life lost with this game. Happily.
Metal Gear Solid - the boss battle with Psycho Mantis is still fresh in my memory.

You can down load it now off of XBL or PSN for $10 or $15…havent done it yet but I will.
Any one else think Alucard it a fucking Aewsome name?
Final fantasy tactics
any of the suikodens
Breath of Fire
Xenogears
Legend Of the Dragoon
Dragon Warrior 7
Used to be heavy into the RPGs
Wow how could I have forgoten Legend of Dragoon? Great, Great game!!! Thank you Dennis
Resident evil was probably up there for me. First horror game that actual did what it was intended to do. I was pretty young when the first one came out so thats probably why the new ones wont seem to have the same affect.

Final Fantasy Tactics(if you’ve never played this get a ps1 emulator and do it now, one of the most complete and difficult RPGs ever)
Just started playing this based off this thread. Game is fun, but the NPC AI in battles is making me want to strangle myself.

I second this. Twisted Metal 2 is one of the few video games I was ever any good at, and of course it’s fun as hell.

Hell yeah, I downloaded it for Arcade last year and have all the save slots filled with games I’ve played just for the hell of it. I think I could make a pretty good run in the game with my eyes closed. I remember when I was younger, though, I didn’t even know there was an inverted castle. Blew my mind the first time I got the Crissagrim.

OP, you’re wise beyond your post count.
Symphony of the Night!
Glad to see others have played this game.
You know what really sucks? There were plenty of 'vania games before and after SOTN. NONE of them could live up to this game. The ones before were arcade style beat em ups. The ones after stripped the series of the rpg elements that made SOTN so fucking great. Don’t even get me started on the 3d N64 game.
Alucard (Dracula backwards) really is the best video game name ever.
Tekken series, Final Fantasy 7-9 (my fav = 8), Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo…
…you dont get quality games like these anymore. Today its about how many pretty pixels you can render while shooting something or walking somewhere. These games had depth. Reasons to keep playing. There was always something rewarding, wether it be an engaging story line (FF, Metal Gear), Ground breaking realism and detail (Gran Turismo), or kick ass gameplay (all of the above) you weren’t buying these games beause of how pretty they were.

I don’t know man, a lot of the Castlevanias that they started putting on the hand-helds have been great. All the ones for GBA were in the same vein, and the two that I have for DS are also quite similar to SotN’s style. I wish they would release them on the major systems, though. I miss 2D games. ![]()
I’m gonna have to agree with that. I didn’t factor in the hand helds which really are quality Castlevania games. Nothing has come close to the depth and replay value of SOTN thoug.

Yes- Syphon Filter was excellent. The headshot kills, the hand held poisonous gas grenade launcher. The mini-machine guns. Loved it.
I also gotta mention Legacy of Kain. Typical hack and slash game- but with a slight twist. The character you played was a Vampire- a true Anti-Hero. Gameplay was good- not great- but the voice acting was innovative (at the time). And there was nothing better than drinking the blood of your opponent from across the room.
Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank!!

Those were PS2.
Anyone else ever play Gex? It was actually a decent 3D platformer with some comedy thrown in.

crash bandicoot racing deserves some props. It kicked mariocarts ass all over the place.
idk, NFL Blitz? i didnt really like PS1 too much that i think about it. i think N64 was way more enjoyable.
