Favorite Christian Music

Another Band I really like. Some have already stated they do not consider this band as Christian, but I will let you all be the judges of that.

Another band I will let you all judge whether they are Christian or not. I love this band, and since I am posting this here you know where I stand on this band.

I’ve barely had a chance to listen anything here, but I gotta say, that piece that dearest Christopher posted by my arch nemesis Aquinas is rather awesome. LOL! Seriously, I never heard that before.

Dies Irae. Pity it’s quite inaccessible in multiple senses, but a personal favourite of mine.

Unsure if they’re Christian, but here’s another:

I checked out Azmaveth. I’ll keep listening but I think I like them. Thanks for the ideas!

How about a classic… I love the synth work…

Most blessed, most glorious, the ancient of days
almighty, victorious, your great name be praised

This one always puts me on my face. Oh Lord Jesus save me from myself. Save me from bringing dishonor to your holy name. How I long to gaze into that beautiful face and hear you say “well done my good and faithful servant”. May every thought of my heart, work of my hand and word of my mouth bring glory to you, the one true and living God.

Awesome stuff here guys. Thanks everyone for sharing.

I get into some old school metal type stuff like Stryper, Barren Cross, Bride, Bloodgood, Whitecross, Tourniquet, and Whitecross too. I used to have this great Christian bookstore in my hometown that carried all sorts of Christian metal and rock. You pretty much just had to buy a tape or CD and see if you liked it. It was fun.

Flogging Molly is Irish and Catholic but they are nowhere near being considered “Christian music.”

I see your synth and raise you even more synth… Great song about the Us being the Prodigal Son. Phillips Craig and Dean did a newer version of this song, but thought I would post the original.

First song I ever sang as a solo in church.

Is this stated as your opinion?

I really would like to keep all personal opinions of different types of genres of music to ones self unless it is uplifting. This is an open thread for all types of genres as long as it is Christian in nature.

So stating the truth is not uplifting? What is this Klove?

Whatever, I tried. I get told the stfu on my first post. I’m out.

I did not tell you to stfu. By the way it was not the truth you stated but an opinion. Just because you do not like a genre of music does not mean it has no appeal musically. I fought with people 40+ years older than myself when my church went from hymns (piano and organ) to a band style of music. They hated the music and would yell, “THIS IS NOT CHRISTIAN!!!” When I showed them the words they were like, “oh that is a verse in the Bible.” I would tell them, “Just because you do not like the music does not mean it is not glorify God.”

This was to be a place where everyone could post their favorite genre of music without anyone judging their style of music. I never judged your style of music, just you voicing an opinion of others style of music.

According to Brother Chris’s link all music is to be considered Christian, and all Christian music should not be labeled as such. I like this style of music. Makes we want to go get a cold beer and hang out with my buds.

Not my opinion. But, okay.

I’m not 40+ years older than you. And, hymns shouldn’t be sung in Church, not unless the antiphons have been sung. Hymns are for the Liturgy of the Hours and prayer in general. And, at that my personal preference is an austere worship: chant, no organ, no piano, and definitely no band. When you bring such things in it tends to allow in the egos of the band members/music director into worship.

That’s good that you’re using music with scripture in it. I applaud you for that. I just don’t want to be at a rock concert when I’m worshipping and communing with my God.

And, I think the issue is that there should be a context to when certain music is played. I don’t want to hear lil Wayne in Church, I don’t want to hear Tantum Ergo at my pool party. Sacred music is for time set apart: sacred.

That doesn’t mean that music that we listen to outside of worship shouldn’t give glory to God, it should do it in another mode and manner though. Good music can give glory to God, even if it doesn’t have the wonderful lyrics of God Pleaser. Who can deny God when listening to Mozart or Bach? How about Audrey Assad (though I am not a fan, she is good and an acquaintance…buy her album ;)).

I’m not dissing genres of music, I’m saying that some of this is not good music. If you’re going to make Arena Rock…make good Arena Rock. Though, I do hold to the fact that there is an order of “beautiful” music (classical being on the high end and metal being on the low end). That music has a continuum from art to noise. Now, I personally love metal/rock/rap stuff on the lower end of music, I do not have an innate appreciate for higher forms of music, that maybe because I haven’t the knowledge to like it. Interestingly enough the Christian Rap music genre is getting pretty good, though it seems to be a copy cat game, which makes me sad. It be pretty crazy if a faithful Christian rapper would become the #1 rapper on the charts.

I never questioned the genre of music. I have no problem with the genre, like I pointed out I listen and like to listen to the lower end of the spectrum of “music” (old people tell me that I listen to noise, and I turn up the volume) so I have no room to speak about on my genre of music is better than another genre.

Anyway, sorry I didn’t make myself clear on my first post.

Red, Thousand Foot Krutch, Demon Hunter, Lecrae

Music was created by God for his glorification. Some people use it for perversion. All music is God’s music.

Thank you for clarifying, and thank you for your honesty. I was not trying to be an ass, but sometimes I come across as such.

I really just love music, and I would also love for a Christian rapper to be #1.

There is a Secular station down here in Houston that played this song, and it went big down here. Never went #1 but made the chart on the local station here in Houston. All my friends and I bombarded the station to play it more.

Here is some Thousand Foot Krutch. Another one of my favorite Christian Bands.
