Favorite Bible Verses.

Numbers 31:17-18
Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman that has ever slept with a man, but save for yourself every girl who has never slept with a man.

Deuteronomy 23:10
If one of your men is unclean because of a nocturnal emission, he is to go outside the camp and stay there.

There are some very interesting verses in the bible. I read Deuteronomy for a couple hours one day while Stacey was in a practice recital. It was interesting to see how much anger and death there is. Also, there are many verses about sex, women, men, adultery, divorce, etc. Very interesting.

Of course, that is the old testament, and some of the things that were once written/taught have now been slightly changed in some way (i.e. couldn’t eat certain animals in the old testament, the new testament says it’s okay to eat those animals).

For me, God was quietly whispering during the good times, and yelling during my most recent hard times. I kept pushing Christ away from me. I tried to live a “good life” and do “good deeds.” I realized that the harder I tried to make my life better, the worse it became. I couldn’t understand it. Until one day that I realized that I was pushing away from God rather than accepting him into my life. I had done the same with family and friends at times.

But for some, that’s the only way you hear him. It may take some hard times, but once you open your ears and listen, it is an awakening.

When I was a child (growing up Catholic), I only read Revelations because it was the most exciting chapter in the bible (to me). But now that I’ve begun to read some other stuff, I’ve found many interesting passages.

There is much to learn, and it’s definitely worth keeping an open mind to and taking it all in. I’m glad Stacey has helped so much.

Yes, Deuteronomy has some wild stuff in it. While I am not Christian nor a believer, I have read most of the Old Tesament and about half of the New. I didn’t put these verses to offend or start a pissing match, I just thought they were funny. Come on – you can’t read “nocturnal emission” and not at least smirk. Or maybe you can. Maybe I’m just that immature.

LOL, I to look forward to the lords return. A place of no sickness, evil, pain, sorrow, hunger, guilt, depression, …ect. Makes me feel all tingly inside.

I might have to read this book; I knew it was funny, but these are just brilliant!

Kind of scary to me. There would also be no health, goodness, pleasure, happiness, satiety, pride… etc. Even the purest light cannot be perceived without the contrast of shadows.

Besides, it sounds rather boring.

Well if it is immature then my proposal to my wife using the following verse was in really bad taste.

Ecc 4:11 Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone?

I remember this philosphical argument. One of the more interesting ones.

And the best part: no Jews, gays, or Arabs!

Just kidding. It is interesting, though, from a purely philosophical and metaphysical point of view, that Paradise is defined by its LACK of certain unfortunate realities of life.

Isn’t the limiting case just the lack of EVERYTHING (as in the Void?). We came from nothingness and will return to it. I, for one, think that is a pretty awe-inspiring cycle.

Or maybe I’ll just burn in hell for eternity, which is cool too.

I can understand that for a non-believer, potentially anything goes philosophically. Anything is possible…any perimeters you (i.e. you, your parents/family, society, religion, philosophy, ideas, thoughts, morals, values and/or lack thereof) choose may designate your limitations, boundaries, what you believe, how you believe, how you react, what you consider good, evil, paradise, hell or also perhaps the lack of any of the above.

It’s also interesting how many people try to define the parameters of Christianity through the same means. If you are defining what you “think” is Christianity, it probably isn’t. In such a case, you should delve into a reliable translation of the original Greek/Hebrew bible text and study to get the real picture (Believer’s and non-believers alike are in need of the same deep, philosophical, logical, and accurate bible study.)

A good book to check out that strips Christianity to its essentials, deals with the problem of what I call religionism and denominationism, and supports biblically a logical and coherent description of who/what Jesus Christ is: “Finding the Reality of God” by Paris Reidhead. My favorite bible verses:

Psalm 27: 1, 14
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

1 Kings 19:11-12
And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”
And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

Isaiah 6:8

"Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

"The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’

Matthew 25 37-40

This quote is great for all the hypocrite Evangelist-type friends I know that are all talk and no walk – it’s like converting is the new thing to do just for fun these days. This quote reminds people about false piety and trying to be a Christian just so you can say that you’re a Christian.

Matthew 6:1-8

1: "Beware of practicing your piety before men in order to be seen by them; for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.
2: "Thus, when you give alms, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.
3: But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
4: so that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
5: "And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.
6: But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
7: "And in praying do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their many words.
8: Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

I have tons of respect for people that are actually religious (I’m not), and I think this quote reinforces the fact that the most impressive people are not the ones who have to remind you every five seconds that they are Christian, but the ones that don’t have to say anything – the ones whose actions tell you that they are devout.

I do realize that this quote is meant to be directed at the supposed hypocrisy of Jews, but I think it is relevant nonetheless.

Do what thou Wilt shall be the Whole of the Law.

well you didn’t say which bible…

One time I promised God I’d stop masturbating as long as my mom survived her cervix cancer. Two weeks after her surgery she was still alive. Now I jerk off like tomorrow’s the apocalypse.

John 16:24
Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

“Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king’s son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.” (I Samuel 18:27)

“Moreover the Lord saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet: Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the Lord will discover [lay bare-ASV] their secret parts.” (Isaiah 3:16-17)

“And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a woman have conceived seed, and born a man child: then she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of the separation for her infirmity shall she be unclean. . . . But if she bear a maid child, then she shall be unclean two weeks . . .” (Leviticus 12:1-5)

“If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.” (Deuteronomy 22:28-29)

“And if a woman have an issue, and her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days . . . and if any man lie with her at all, and her flowers [impurity] be upon him, he shall be unclean seven days; and all the bed whereon he lieth shall be unclean.” (Leviticus 15:19-24) “And if a man shall lie with a woman having her sickness, and shall uncover her nakedness; he hath discovered her fountain, and she hath uncovered the fountain of her blood: and both of them shall be cut off from among the people.” (Leviticus 20:18)

“If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.” (Luke 14:26)

“But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given. For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother’s womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs from the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.” (Matthew 19:11-12)

Yes, there are some very strange laws that God gave to the Israelites in the OT, however it’s important to note two things about these laws:

  1. God wanted Israel to be a very distinct nation in the way that they lived, it was a sign of their faith in Him that they followed them.

  2. If you read the laws carefully you can see that a lot of them are actually to do with

a) hygiene/cleanliness where people were faced with a lot more disease threats than we do with our modern medicine today.

b) Proper functioning of society due to respect of others and authorities etc etc.

When read in the context of the times they were presented in the laws all make good sense.
