-ruger SR9c 9mm handgun that I am okay with…dont love it, but dont honestly do much with it
-Smith and Wesson 23" rifle (270 winchester)
-This custom AR im putting together now
-Glock 22(got from a LEO friend of mine and LOVE IT, as far as handguns go)

some antiques…family guns that have been passed down for generations.
Nice! I love hunting too. I worked at a gun range through high school in sporting Claus/trap and skeet. It was a lot of fun and we hosted a lot of tournaments. Houston is home to the largest commercial gun show in the world too, a real cornacopea of awesome. Rugers are built well but sit funny in the hand. I’m assuming you hunt deer with the 270? I just went dove hunting last weekend.

I havent done much bird hunting, but tons of deer hunting.

As for fishing, I like all sorts. I have been to Michigan all of twice, and I didnt really get to jump in the water. I have done quite a bit on the east coast (name Hilton Head Island) as far as deep sea fishing goes and loved it. I do get a little bit motion sickness though.

The problem with fishing is that I live in the midwest. Big fishing trips are hard to get out and go on. But catfishing…Im all over it.

I haven’t deer hunted yet this year, I do enjoy it though. White tail, axis and mule. I wish we had elk. I love the challenge of a bird hunt and a dove breast/slice of onion/slice of jalapeno wrapped in Bacon and grilled. I’m knife hunting hogs in early October. Catfish can be fun! I like them fried though I do prefer deep sea fishing given my proximity to the gulf coast. I caught the grouper in my avi in June.

Rifle season is the end of November 'round here (for deer). I believe bow season is a bit earlier than that, but thats not really my scene.

Bow hunting is only fun if you track them imo but I do like my boomsticks. So how do you boulder in the Midwest? Rock climbing is tough! I can only do fake walls with handles for grips.

We have some good rock cliffs that are fantastic for bouldering. It doesnt take a huge mountain to go sideways. Im fortunate to have a pretty nifty state park real close to my abode that is kinda built around some natural boulders.

I’m a felon. When I was 18 I got busted for armed robbery and spent 3.5 years in prison. That was almost 20 years ago, but they STILL wont let me play with guns! In VA they won’t even let me vote. AND I just had my career taken from me because they changed some mortgage regulations and POOOF! my career is gone… Us felons have it ROUGH! LOL

in before someone says “well you shouldn’t have robbed anyone”.

Nice! And is public hunting allowed? PS, you should check out the hellfire trigger system for your AR.

Trouble with the law, or the wife?
I fought the law and the LAW won! LOL

Looks like you will just have to move to my neck of the woods. Shucks.

I didn’t - I got snitched out and set up.

I’m not allowed to play with guns either. I’m English.

I’m looking to get into bow-hunting upon returning stateside. Guns are something I’ve been warming up to more and more over the years. Specifically handguns.

HG, can you tell me a lil more about the knife-hunt? I’ve also got a bit of interest in knives and other bladed weapons.

Fishing is on my “to-do” list.

Music (Drumming)
Reading
Fishing
Photography
art
cooking/baking
BaGuazhang
travel and travel photography (although have done none in the last six years)
Outdoorsy shit – climbing, hiking etc.

also…

semi articulate drunken rants about nothing in particular
practicing staring into the middle distance
hobby comedy
imatating various inanimate objects
remedial, at home surgery on loved ones.

I am also an amateur gynecologist…but then, aren’t we all?

The only knife hunting I’ve done or been around entails having some bad ass dogs catch a wild boar by the ears/face. Then you stab the pig in the heart through its ribs or slit its throat.

A lot of people bow hunt. The compound bows are just as powerful as rifles close range though so if you are cold to guns for safety reasons, don’t kid yourself. I’ve seen arrows travel straight through some big bodied animals.

Handguns are fun, I like target shooting with them. I can shoot a beer can out of the air with a .45. Assault rifles are my fav though, unless we are talking hunting specifics.

Knife hunting a boar/javelina what have you entails trained dogs chasing one down and you catching up to slit the hogs throat or stab it before it kills your dogs and turns on you.

The thread “Things You Love In General” has a discussion and videos about it between BG and I. Pigs are actually very mean and tough and can seriously injure or kill which makes it a thrill.

Fishing, however, is my absolute favorite hobby. Lakes and rivers are ok but if you want to really get a taste for it, spend the money and go offshore. Use a private captain too, unless of course you have your own boat. The big commercial boats don’t put you on hot spots (reefs, wrecks other structures) and just cruise around blind and collect your money. If you catch anything, it’s purely by accident.

You will use fish the size of a decent Bass in a lake for bait out there. I caught the grouper in my avatar with a 16 inch Red Snapper and that is a pretty average grouper.

Well I’m not scaring cattle through a chute. Yeee Hawww to a cow means “get” pronounced giiiyet. As in get moving. It’s not a chest thumping celebration even if the old school westerns disagree.

But I usually am in boots (slip on ropers, not hiking or work boots) and jeans, a t-shirt, aviator sunglasses and a cammo ball cap when shooting beer out of the sky.

FWIW I spend most of my life in the nations 4th largest city. I wake up in a neighborhood, travel through a complex highway system and sit in an office building surrounded by other office buildings and wear slacks and a tie, sometimes a coat when necessary. Clean shaven, short hair, clean fingernails, freshly showered…

For lunch I can order chinese, mexican, indian, cuban, thai, african, american, bbq, italian, russian, greek and I’m probably forgetting some. We also have world class museums, theater, opera, the largest park system in the US and other sophisticated gems.

But I do feel most comfortable in either jeans and boots shooting guns or shorts and flip flops on a boat deck, oodles of beer in both scenarios and a beard growing as long as my time away from civilization allows. Usually slightly better than a 5 o’clock.

But could you just say that that is what you say when you shoot beer cans out of the sky?

Please.

And maybe there can be vids.
