Loved this workout after some moderate drinking last night. Conv stance seems to work best when I’m as wide as squat. Hope the back feels good tomorrow, especially after all the standing I’ll be doing at the wedding tonight.

^^^I appreciate the kind words, man. The DL definitely needs work, but I should make some progress if my back holds up. Wish I was a good sumo puller, though.

Didn’t have a belt or my shoes, so I ended up deloading after not liking the feel of the first few sets. Probably will only do light wrapping from now on, which still provides a good bit of bounce/support.

Nothing good about this workout. I attribute it to excessive drinking this weekend and lack of sleep, combined with the lack of my normal gear. Not too worried though, just gonna stuff my face tonight and get a lot of sleep. Might start doing power cleans without dropping into a full squat. It’ll keep the weight lighter and should spare the knee.

I can usually count on bench to get my spirits up after a shitty squat day. Getting dangerously close to 400x3, which I think will be the end game of this particular wave. I will most likely stay light next week, maybe 335 shooting for 7/8, then make a final push to end the summer. Shoulder felt a little uncomfortable on the last set, which is why I stopped at 7. I was really throwing the weight up hard in warmups and it was a little rough on the shoulder.

Last one was probably a PR, don’t really remember. I’m going to stay away from BB inclines for a few weeks and rest up my shoulder as much as I can.

Wasn’t sure how 505 would go, but 475 felt fast enough that I was willing to try it. Probably had a 5 s pause between reps, but both went up smooth and easier than 503 last week. Pissed I didn’t film this.

Altered my technique slightly and pulled to my chest instead of my chin. Felt good.

Got an extra rep, but probably need to get 7/8 before I move up…grip is somewhat of an issue.

Excellent workout. Added in a foam roll after in addition to the stuff I do before the workout…hopefully this keeps my back in working order.

Shoulder felt a little off still, so I eased up and stayed away from a true heavy set.

Going to retool this day slightly and eliminate the pressing. The shoulder is giving me some warning signs saying I need to ease back. Soon as my knee feels better I’ll bring back front squat on this day. I’ll probably also do some form of lateral raise in addition to the front raises, maybe add in some more prehab.

Haha, Julia. I awkwardly lifted around her BF the rest of the time I was in there. Did they see me losing my shit at that goddamn lawnmower? It died at least ten times before I gave up. I probably looked pretty cool pushing it around like a broken-down car and throwing my hands up in exasperation.

Wraps are breaking in a little more…stuck with a relatively light wrap though. May jump another 10 next week, not sure though. Tweaked my lower back on the right side during the lower sets, but didn’t affect me much. Depth felt pretty good, looked OK on the video.

Could have had another rep at 225, but I didn’t like my technique. Form broke down to the point that I muscled up the second rep instead of using explosive hip drive. I’ll probably do 215 next week until I’m satisfied with my form. These were also true power cleans…I caught the bar in a full standing position.

Good squat day finally. Don’t ever let anyone tell you wraps don’t add a lot of weight. With a tight wrap I could see them adding 50+ to an experienced squatter. Knee felt markedly better today as well.

Sounds like an awesome workout. I miss my old gym where I could lift without a shirt on, that was the best.

What kind of knee wraps do you have? I’ve been having a little bit of right knee pain (right below my knee cap) lately and have been thinking of looking into wraps or one of those tendinitis band things. Any ideas?

^^^Very liberating, right? I see a garage gym in my future. Sounds like patella tendinitis, which I’ve had two separate times in my lifting days. My advice is this: get some knee sleeves right away. You can get them at any sporting goods store, and buy them a size small. You can try them on in the store, usually. They are a great thing to have…keeps the knee warm and provides some support. I think they are about 10 bucks each. You want to address it now, though, otherwise your other knee will follow suit if it’s anything like mine. As for the wraps, mine are Sheik heavy duty, and they run about 25 bucks…well worth the investment. I don’t do a full wrap, just enough to ease the pain. And so far, I don’t feel anything in my knee when it’s wrapped. You can look up how to wrap them on youtube…I went with the x-wrap with a bowtie.

Silly ego. Gave normal grip a shot, felt great through 335, but just wasn’t used to holding a heavy weight that way. The first rep at 365 looked like an s, though the next two were very easy. I then made the mistake of switching back to a false-grip for the last set and just wasn’t ready to go that heavy. I like the way the normal grip felt, so this time I really am going to narrow my grip and increase reps. I’ll try 400x3 some other time…now I need to take some of the strain off my shoulder.

Despite my stupid benching, a good workout. I’m going to try narrow grip for sets of 7 next week, but if my shoulder feels funny I’ll do a 4-6 week cycle of decline. If it feels funny even on decline, I can always stick to the HS machines until it heals up. FTR, my shoulder felt excellent through warmups and at the lower weights, just wasn’t quite ready for a grip change and heavy weight on the same day.

gregron, get the knee wraps he’s talking about. He saw me using them and then got some. Good decision right? I have the same issues with my knee and the wraps definitely help.

You guys are making a very compelling case for da wraps… you would say wraps over a sleeve? I know wraps would be tighter but would you suggest a progression or just straight to wraps?

I went straight to the wraps. I have never tried the sleeves though so he might have some better insight into how those feel since he used them first. But I can tell you that the brand wraps we have are great. I used the same brand wrist straps after I had surgery on my wrist and without them I would have been fucked. Feels like a cast

I think the sleeves offer the advantage of being able to be worn from the time you do your first warmup through the last set. If you are wrapping tightly at all you won’t be able to keep them on for very long, and it would be a hassle to re-wrap every set including warmups. If it’s either or, I would say start with the sleeves, but I would recommend both. Also, ice and ibuprofen…your new best friends. Take a couple before and after you workout and ice for at least a half an hour if you aren’t already.

Power Snatch to 115x3-I think I can go to 125 next week. I want the reps to stay fast and somewhat light.

It was a PR, but only because my DL blows :). Got that feeling like I was going to throw up again from 455 on, so it threw me off. Wasn’t sure I was even going to get 1 at 510, but got it up fairly easily. A 2nd would have been very dicey, though, so I was OK with 1 for this week. Technique could have been better, too…just kind of muscled it up.

NG Pullup

I’ll probably stay at that weight next week. I got up to my nose on the last two reps, so they weren’t quite full reps.
