I can give people who are a bit overweight some benefit of the doubt, sometimes shit gets out of hand and it can add up quick. However the people that are just obese, and you observe their habits even just a little bit and can clearly see why, I just can’t stand those people.
I think I’m more angered about the whole thing because my dad is huge, and I see first hand how a person who claims they do things to change but clearly aren’t.
Somewhere social darwinism has to be allowed to take place. Maybe that makes me a bad person?

Man, some of you need to read some actual books. I did not realize people were so ignorant that they would see something racial in the title. WOW.
Here is an explanation of “the new black.”
“‘_____ is the new black’ is a catch phrase and snowclone used to indicate the sudden popularity or versatility of an idea at the expense of the popularity of a second idea. It is also the origin of a snowclone of the form ‘X is the new Y’”
Black is generally a popular color. So saying, “Fat is the new black” is like saying, “Fat is the new ‘in’ thing.”
Again, the ignorance is astounding.
Now, in fairness, some could say that “___ the new black” is so overused that it’s becoming cliche. I tend to fall into that camp on many days. But to not even get “the new black” reference?
Ignorance, I guess, is the new black.
cl what i found interesting is you of all people knew the type of response the title would generate . I knew where you were coming from, but seriously you had to know some people wouldn’t get it…this is what I found interesting. So are you really that surprised?
As far the article is concerned everything happens in cycles as peter himmelman once said…this too will pass.
while maybe they should not have jumped and called you a moron, I am sure you know not every phrase is popular. Plus not everybody is going to look up a phrase in wikipedia for every forum.

I can certainly sympathize with why you’d react this way over being “called out” over something so ludicrous, but I don’t think this incident merits the response “You’re all a pack of idiots.”
To be unaware of a simple phrase like you used isn’t a big deal. There are plenty of cliches that people simply are not aware of. It’s arbitrary to select knowledge of this one as some kind of intellectual measuring stick – and a very well-read person could easily make the same mistake.
On the one hand, when an aide uses the word “niggardly” in the proper sense and is lambasted for it, I feel pity for him and wonder at the stupidity of all those offended.
At the same time, I wonder what sort of self-destructive death instinct would inspire an otherwise intelligent individual to use a word that a reasonably prudent person would understand as easily confused by those for whom it is unfamiliar; especially in a predominately black area like DC.
For CaliforniaLaw, however, I think he just gets a hearty laugh at both the expense of those who don’t understand it and those who misinterpret it. I picture him sitting back like Costanza, yelling “Pure gold, baby! Pure gold!”
I’m somewhat struggling with my own level of fat acceptance. I dislike fat people because in them I see a lack of discipline. If I meet a fat person who is smart as balls then I can respect them because they are still productive and valuable members of society. They just spend their time downing mtn. dew and reading physics books instead of hitting the gym.
That said, my beef is that most fat folks are NOT the type of people who are drinking mtn. dew and reading physics. They are instead fat folks who are drinking mtn. dew and watching American Idol at the same time. These people have no redeeming value to society and well, frankly, would benefit us best by DYING.
Not only do they hurt themselves, but they also tend to be undisciplined crybabies that will vote for those that give them entitlements at the expense of my liberty. They also breed disgusting little weebles that are going to grow up even worse than their parents.
Most fatties are a drain on us as a species. What eats my ass about this article is that even the brits are writing articles about what a joke we have become.
Now, with the hate of fat folks aside, I still can’t bring myself to not be cordial to fatties. Many of them are nice, forcing me to be nice in return. The struggle I have is living in a world of fatties and not giving them all a piece of my mind. Am I alone in this regard?
How do you make peace with the fact that the person you are being cordial to is passively but most assuredly bringing about the downfall of your species?

Ahh lay off CalifLaw. I knew what he meant and at least “Fat is the new white” wasn’t used. :-\
[No, that phrase doesn’t exist. That I know of.]

Yes,but if you look at it globally…on 1 lifter comes 10 fat people with the same BMI.
And if you cound those skinny-fat people with optimal BMI,the situation is even worse-they lack muscle, but they haave way too much fat.
Its not the USA problem…its world problem!
Even in poor African countries you have like 30 % very skinny dirt-poor people and 30 % very fat( those that can afford food) people and only 40 % healthy-weight people.

Meanwhile, I have been finding myself becoming increasingly intolerant of fat people, and I cannot help but wonder what will happen in 10 years.
Because of where I live, I often forget that fat people even exist. I’m serious. Then I travel and completely whig out. I have nothing against fat people; but, man, there are so many of them.
What will be interesting is if people who are fat will eventually say, “It’s okay to be fat.” Right now, even fat people are ashamed to be fat. This is why the dieting industry is booming. But what will happen when it’s socially acceptable to be fat? Will people who aren’t fat be viewed with indignance?
CL,I heard California is the place with most fit people in the world. Is that true?

Too late for that I’d say. While the majority probably aren’t too happy about it there is already groutps out there to support people that are large.
People that didn’t get the title were just kidding right?

Thats exactly how I feel!

Here in Croatia,The New Black has a completely different meaning.

I ran the numbers once, and I think it came out that I’d have to be around 2% bodyfat in order to be “normal weight,” according to BMI.

Did they just advocate a right to get laid?
Who are those guys? What does it mean in Croatia?
BALBO wrote:

That would require (with regard to females, anyway) a male who is capable of getting wood in their presence. In the case of a NAAFA woman, that’s asking a lot (of a guy). I hope they’re not holding their breath.
