How are you doing?

Went to the gym yesterday, spent a good 20 minutes warming up and stretching. The stretching and bodyweight squats were pain free so I was feeling hopefull. Then I benched to practice commands with 95lbs. Finally grabbed my courage walked to the squat rack and started with just the bar… On the fourth rep my right quad seized up and I fell on my ass…

So the good new is that within 8 days I went from walking like a stiff mummy to squating 45lbs.

The bad news is that there is no way I am handling 200lbs this weekend. I am still unstable and muscle fatigue sets in too quickly. Just those few exercises made me sore again. Not hurting but sore. so that’s that. No meet for me this weekend. I cancelled my hotel room, lesson learned.

On a positive note it was my big calendar launch yesterday. I saw the final results and I am really happy. I’ve been very “reasonable” with my alcohol (read wine) since August in preperation for this meet so yesterday I figured fuck it! I wore my pleather tights, my whorey boots, a top that showed off my new tatoo and knocked down 3 glasses of wine. It was great to see the models I had worked with again.

So the game plan for the next couple of days is to get properly sloshed and eat junk food. In terms of training I’ll use this time to step back from 5/3/1. I want no programs and no barbells for the next few weeks. DB, cables, bodyweight, dips, bands… with a focus on upper body while my leg/hip gets better.

As for the next meet, I’ll probably participate in the Battle of Montreal Jan. 14th. It’s local and organized by the PL gym I haven’t visited in a while.

Yay for not walking like a mummy. :slight_smile: Sucks you have to skip the meet, but sounds like you had a blast at your calendar launch. I wonder are there any pictures of you in that outfit? grin

I also suspect you’ll enjoy your no program, no barbells time. As much as I love 5/3/1 I do, now and then, just want to do ‘stuff’. You might even strengthen spots you didn’t know needed help.

Yeah sorry to hear about missing your meet. But its just one meet and you have so much going for you. And excited to hear how your “no program” will enfold over the next few weeks. We know you be killing it!

To be honest I knew by how severe the sprain was initially that I was not going this weekend. I’ve had a week to sulk. it’s no one’s fault but my own. so live learn and move on. My 225 squat is still valid and something I’ve been striving for for 5 years. I didn’t fall back to start, just a minor set back. Next year I will bring more wisdom to my training.

you guys have seen this outfit before but it’s borderline for me to wear in public. I’ve worn these boots out of the house twice now.

DAMNIT Mainy, that sucks. Sorry to hear it, but it’s better to heal up and LWI in January than to really screw yourself this weekend. Don’t worry, I’ll PR for the both of us.

SO SORRY about the strain. I know how that is! I had a ‘minor’ strain in my lat put me back like eight weeks or more on my progressioN! If it hasn’t already been recommended I was advised Curcumin in major high doses like six capsules three times a day (you can’t take too much so don’t worry about that) I was also advised this stuff they sell at Whole Foods (not sure about canada) weboenzyme take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach (pic attached). REALLY REALLY HELPED ME heal fast fast fast. So, I pass that great advice on to you.

Living and learning, that’s what all of us are doing with training and everything else. I suspect you’ll have a great time this weekend despite missing the meet.
