Fat, Bald, and D@%n Near 50

Thursday morning workout.

Bench Press: 135WU, 225WU, 2x255x4, 3x255x3
Incline Press: 155x8, 2x155x6

All I can say is a shitty workout today. I bagged cardio hell and went to the barn. Weights felt heavy and I was grinding to move what I moved. I fooled with my grip some.I brought my hands in about an inch. Seemed to feel OK. I have to play with it.
On every set it seemed like the last rep went up strongest and the final rep failed. I don’t know what to think of that.

The work spouse came and benched with me. She is getting it done. In a little over 6 weeks she has doubled her bench press training weight.

I believe my results are directly related to a poor night’s sleep. I am an Ambien dependant sleeper. It’s a fact of life. I was about asleep and my wife’s step brother (notice not my brother in law, I don’t claim the s.o.b.) called at 10:40 pm. My mind started to recount the days events. 2 important sales meetings, scheduling a shut down, an online conversation with my Chinese guy, and having to take the daughter back to the doctor. I was strategizing my upcoming workouts, trying to get creative in sourcing raw materials, and planning for my trip to China. My mind was racing and I couldn’t get it slowed down. Finally by 11:45 and 2 Sonata sleeping pills coupled with the original Ambien I drifted off to sleep. 3am rolls by, here comes the normal light sleeping time until my normal 4:30am wake up.

Last night just plain sucked!

Those nights make the next day a long drag. I need to follow your path and drop 40 lbs. Great work.

wow - quite a difference, keep up the great work!

Some days you ride the bear, other days the bear rides you. That’s still a good bench session in my book JW.

Can’t give you much advice on the sleep cause mine sucks, too. You still lifted pretty good, though. Careful you look where you’re puttin the weights when you’re busy eyeballin all the scenery.

I’m not a fall and winter guy. While the weather is fantastic, Autumn means winter is coming fast. I really hate winter.

But October 4 brings one good thing, oyster season. So tonight we took the daughter to ballet and the wife and I hauled tail to The Oyster Bar. This place has been here for 40 years.

It’s the kind of place you feel like you need a knife and pack a .45 as you walk in the door. You belly up to the bar next to a banker and a farm hand. The beer is the coldest in 5 counties and the oysters are damn salty and tasty.

3 pecks, 4 beers, and a half pound of jumbo lump crab meat later…here I write.

Friday Morning workout

Squats 5x135x5
Leg Ext.: 3x90x10
Treadmill Intervals: 30 minutes of questioning my sanity

Light day today. The pretty 20 something was doing the leg curls, so I yielded to her prettiness. I decided to torture myself for bagging the intervals yesterday. I hated every single minute 30 times, but finishing was very rewarding.

Slept better last night, the Ambien worked. The beer didn’t effect it too much and the oysters worked on me the way they are alleged to work. Unfortunately they did not have the effect on the wife. After 17 years one would think I knew when to pick my opportunities.

You are not alone. My timing and delivery are atrocious.

Same here. My only consolation is that she can’t figure herself out either.

Can’t jump on that ship I married a no timing ever needed girl (thank God).

Got to go with you on this one, eco. Been married damn near 30 years and we still act like newlyweds.

Willy, you don’t even look like the same person! You should be damn pleased with your progress. Any time you’re tempted to question yourself, just take a gander at where you started!

Here’s to another year of healthy losses and great strength gains!

I’m with Skid…I tell my wife all the time I wouldnt trade her for a loosing lottery ticket…You think that has something to do with my timing issues?

Saturday morning workout

Dumbbell press: 4x80x10
Floor Press: 135x10, 2x205x10, 205x7
Speed bench in the smith: 3x225x8, 235x7 (set consists of 4 reps 15 sec pause and 4 sets)
Lockout in Smith: 2x325x10 375x6
Bent Row: 135x10, 3x155x10
Treadmill intervals: 30 minutes

The work spouse joined me for a Saturday morning. SSSOOO this morning I switched routines and did the Sunday work. The amazing thing is half way thru her work she wanted to max her bench. She has a new PR of 95 lbs. Not bad for a woman that in July could not lift the bar.

I like the work level I push for on the weekends. I’m not limited by time or issues at home or work. I can really push my limits. Saturday and Sunday training is damn fun for me. No one I know, understands how I can wake up daily at 4:30 or 5:00 am and go train.

It is my drug. It is my mistress. It is my head shrinker. It is my challenge. It is my pastime now. Hell’s bells I can’t even find something snide and disparaging to write about the intervals. Which I have increased to 30 minutes.

Y’all enjoy your weekend!

JW, love working out with the guys but there’s just something about those early morning, all alone, whole place to yourself workouts. Always look forward to my Sunday morning and day off workouts the most. Kinda of zen lifting. Sides, gives you a chance to sneak over and try those machines you been wonderin about.

Sunday morning workout.

Ab machine crunches: 4x120x30
Power Cleans: 5x135, 4x155x3
Shrugs in the Smith Machine: 3x225x10, 2x275x6
Face pulls: 4x65x12
Treadmill Interval: 20 tongue wagging minutes

Dammit, I overslept! Didn’t get to the gym until 6:30. Just me and a couple of elliptical machine bosu ball ladies. I realize my gym set up and sensibilities about tearing up another man’s crap is holding me back on the power clean. I’m not generating enough bar speed. Plus this gym doesn’t have a lifting platform or power rack. So Willy being the mindful person he is, doesn’t like dropping these solid steel old fashioned York plates on the composite floor. I need to be doing some pulls to work on developing bar speed. Oh well, unless I decide to move to a different town or build the work gym I dream of,

I guess I’ll be doomed to a less than average power clean and snatch. I’m depressed… I need a Prozac…and my wife says Welbutrin will make me Horny, and she doesn’t need that!!

I upped my run speed on the intervals. Damn near died again! Still the intervals aren’t so bad. I hate them, yes. I like to bitch about them more.

WOW!!! It was 45 degrees this morning. A weekend Nor’easter just blew out over night and it’s a beautiful day. I need to go see my parents and chew the fat at the beach.

Y’all have a nice Sunday.

Exactly! I’m right with you on the “like to bitch about them” more than actually hate them. Sorta.

Hit us here, too. Low 30’s this AM, but cloudy and blustery today. Feels like late Nov. I think I up and joined that new gym just in time. The temps in the basement will drop like a rock if this keeps up. Nice to know I have an alternative.

I also have to admit I’m feeling a bit giddy about being able to train anytime I want. That still blows my mind. I can’t even train whenever I want at home and I’ve certainly never had that option with a commercial gym before. I’m kind of interested in seeing how this shakes out. (Trust me, I will NOT be hitting the gym at 5 AM anytime soon!)

Stay warm!
Cappy

What is a workout with out a little something to complain about.

I just got a call. A friend needs to move a piano around four o’clock. I’ll be there.

When I add cardio into the mix, I am at the gym at 5am when it opens. It is zen. Especially, since I don’t have a TV in the house-- I get to catch SportsCenter at the gym
