I need to follow a program. Instinctively my body tells me to lift less, and spend too much time in bars with exotic dancers.
Like those standing DB presses.
Gorgeous scenery! Getting second thoughts about moving out?

Kev - Me too. I got the idea from you, thanks, although I use Matty’s way of getting the plate on. What’s not to like about them?. They work pecs, delts and tris, they work the serratus (which I’ve read on here plays an important role in shoulder health), they feature scap retraction and they’re like a loaded plank too. That’s a lot of bang for your buck! My goal is to get up to 3 sets of 20 before adding more weight. Any idea how to add more weight? I can’t see how to get more than 1 plate on.
George, Alexus, Goat, Git, Joe and Dude - Thanks.
BN - I’ve had asthma since I was 20 and I’m still not sure what causes it. I know I’m not good with dust (which gets me out of changing the bed and dusting, so it’s not all bad) and cold weather, but I don’t know what brought it on the other day. I stopped taking my inhalers for a few weeks a while back and I was fine for a fortnight and then I started to wheeze, so I’m back on them. I really hate the fact that I’m reliant on them. I see it as a sign of weakness.
Cav - No second thoughts, because having lived here 11 years I’m all too aware that, lovely as that day was, there are just too few of them in Wales. Generally the weather sucks, but when it is nice, there is no place I’d rather be.

Deadlifts (straps) @ 401.5 lbs x 5-5
Leg Curls @ 78 lbs x 12-12-11
GHR @ bw x 5-5-5
Pull Ups (with pause in dead hang position) @ bw x 7-7-6
Seated Row @ 220 lbs x 7-7-7
Ab Rollouts (off knees) x 8-8-8-8
***** SOFT PR ALERT! ******** SOFT PR ALERT! ****** SOFT PR ALERT! *****
Deadlift equal PR for five reps (although to be fair last time I did it for 5 sets not 2). Never lifted more than 400 for any reps. The only time I’ve lifted over 400 was for 1 rep max attempts. 418 for 5 next week will be a “proper” new PR.
Going to swap seated rows for one arm rows because they are bothering…wait for it…my left knee!! WTF!
Because my low pulley is very low to the ground I have to sit with my legs split (like a sitting sumo stance) and it is making my left knee twinge. I couldn’t stand on it properly afterwards. So one arm rows it is. I like them, I just don’t normally do them because they take twice as long.
Getting stronger on the ab rollouts.
As of today I am officially old! My beard is going grey! Aaaargghhhhh! My wife’s been telling me for ages, but I’ve been in denial.
Funny you mention the elbows tucked with the push downs, I started making sure my elbows are tucked when doing skull crushers and french presses as I had a habit of flaring them, definitely hits my tris harder and takes some strain off the elbows…
Great work as usual bro
Strong work Grey Beard. Its nice you give all the women around here some eye candy with your videos.
Nice pulling!!
good work
puling 400+ for reps is solid.
I think I pulled it for 6 or 7 last year
grey beard hmmm it does sound english.
I think I was able to go to 75lbs 1 plate and 1 25 but it wasnt easy to stack the plates on.
German - has young vixens hold the plates on when he does it
congrats on your PR.
i have trouble getting more than one plate on for my planks. need to ask someone else to put the second one on, yeah. think i’m a bit of a way away from being able to do weighted push-ups…
Nice PR grind it out next week.
Damn fine pullin’ son!! easy with the old talk, I am very sensitive (haha) welcome to the grey world!
Great job on the pulls! Big PR coming next week!
Nice PR for an old guy…hell nice PR for any guy, gray beard or not.
great work brett! Are you still on track for the sale of your place? you said they tend to drag on and be iffy over there…
Screw the grey hair, you just pulled 400 damned pounds!
HOSS!
Matty - I think skullcrushers are my most productive tricep exercise of all, but after a few weeks of them they start to kill my elbows, so I just can’t do them anymore. That stretch never fails to get me sore.
Eco, Kevin and dday - Thanks guys.
Alexus - I was thinking of maybe taping or chaining plates together?. Or maybe putting them in a sack or something?. I’m not there yet, but I might start experimenting now.
OG - CK - I guess grey is better than bald, but I think that’s on the way too! Good job I’m not concerned with looks, I only care about my body and that’s something I at least have some control over.
Dude and German - Looking forward to having a crack at the 418 next week. I’m pretty confident it’s mine.
MJ - Looks to be progressing OK. Our solicitors have drawn up the contracts and delivered them to the buyer’s solicitors. Once they sign we are good to go. This process could take a couple of weeks, but once they’ve signed if they back out they lose their 10% deposit (25,000 pounds). No one normally pulls out at this stage, so once they sign we have “definitely” sold. Keep your fingers crossed.

Hill Sprints - 35 yds x 10
Rolled my calves last night with a PVC pipe. I’ve never done them before. They feel like massive bruises this morning, is that normal? I thought foam rolling was supposed to make you feel better!
EVA foam rolling does help you feel better! PVC rolling can make you feel better or worse, though, depending on the state of things.
I find that sometimes the PVC is a bit too brutal. I need to be a bit careful with hard plastic balls, too.
I aim to get the muscle to relax so I can massage the fibers along the direction of the muscle. Find this helps prevent / reduce DOMS and helps me get / keep a smooth range of motion. Sometimes the muscle feels a bit crunchy and gentle rolling rolls that away. Sometimes I find a bit of a knot and putting pressure on that for 15-40 seconds results in the knot relaxing so the gentle rolling is comfortable. After some of that I can usually put all my weight on the muscle being rolled to really dig it into the belly and the rolling feels good / comfortable.
If I put a bit too much pressure on the muscle (e.g., with a ball or a PVC pipe) then the muscle tends to contract rather than relax. I find trying to roll a muscle that is contracted results in bruising, yeah.
gently does it??
i need to release the muscle-tendon junction daily.
