Farmer's Log 2

He may simply not be on the tinternet at the moment, i know he was moving out of the house and may not have a connection where he is.
Either that or he has been at the sheepdip again…or worse at the sheep !!

Howdy folks. Long time, no see.

Big Nurse was right… about me not having the internet, not the sheep ‘worrying’ bit. That was just malicious gossip.

Just for the record, they were very old trousers and I’d lost a bit of weight (which was why they fell down), it was very slippery underfoot that day (which was why I was on all fours, having fallen) and I can confirm that the sheep WAS NOT in my bedroom and Flossie…ahem…I mean the sheep…was also NOT wearing lingerie!

My family have been very supportive of me throughout these difficult times and the subsequent court case. Please let this be the end of it…Anyhoo

Had a nightmare trying to get a new phone line installed with BT (British Telecom for Johnny foreigner). Ordered it on the 19th of October for installation on the 9th of November. An engineer called while we were out, typical!! And decided we would need a new pole because of the distance from the road. We called BT when we got back to confirm with the engineer where the pole could go and were informed that for some bizarre reason we were not allowed to speak to the ‘pole-putter-inner’ (conveniently located just down the road) directly and would have to consult with him through a third party, a frickin’ Mumbai call centre!!
Now I understand that having call centres in Mumbai makes great business sense, but do they really have to go out of their way to source people with the thickest Indian regional accents they can find and speech impediments? And after over an hour of being kept on hold, being sent from one department to another and not being helpful, do they really have to ask you, without a hint of irony, if “there is anything else I can help you with today Sir”…AAARGHHH!!!
So after 5 weeks of missed appointments and miss-communications we gave up with BT and got mobile broadband, which so far is great. Why is it that the companies that bang on the most about customer care are the shittiest at it? Anyway…

A couple of clips that sum up the BT call centre experience.

Recap since last post.

Week before move- no lifting, too busy.

Week after move- no lifting, too knackered.

Lifted 31/10 - 1/11 - 5/11 - 7/11 - 9/11 - 11/11 - 14/11 - 16/11 - 18/11 - 21/11 Can’t be bothered to log it all.

22nd - 28th Just got back from a week in London. Did the whole tourist thing, Tate Modern, Natural History Museum, V&A, got mugged etc.

Training wise I’ve been doing 20 rep front squats of late. Yeah, yeah I know, if you can front squat it for twenty reps it can’t be that heavy. True, but I’m sure I’m seeing some results. My windpipe is definitely getting bigger and stronger and I can now hold my breath much longer before passing out. Cool!

Enough crap. I’m off to check out some logs.

Nice to see you back.

Baaaaaaa…

Good lord, 20 rep front squats are inhuman.

Farmer,

Congratulations on the sale and I guess getting a phone, also congrats on doing sets of 20 anything much less front squats, when I do more than 10 of anything lower body related in a set my head hurts and I start to black out you are a machine. Nice work.

You mean, as opposed to what you’re going through?

Hi Brett! Welcome back!

yay! welcome back!

I had been wondering where you were…

20 rep front squats are no joke no matter what the weight.

WELLLLLLLLLLLL…Look who’s back.

so, when do you do “the caravan around the warm parts of the continent” thing?

Also, how many sheep will fit in your van?

welcome back

Welcome Back Farmer

Thanks for all the welcome backs everyone, it warmed the cockles for sure! (there’s an English colloquialism for you all to look up).

The 20 rep front squats are certainly a different animal than the back squat version. There’s no pausing in the standing position and resting for ages to get your breath back. I find the trick is to try and do them as quickly as possible. The less time spent with the weight on your chest the better.

MJ - The plan is to go in the Spring, April/May time. Including the overhead lockers - 6!

30/11/2011

20 rep Front Squat @ 176 lbs - 18! ARSE!!!

GHR @ bw x 13

Chin Ups @ bw x 13

Military Press @ 132 lbs x 10

DB One Arm Row @ 74.5 lbs x 10

Weighted Push Ups (with feet elevated 16") @ bw +44 lbs x 11

Band Pull Aparts x 21

Face Pulls @ 50 lbs x 15

EZ 21s @ 68.2 lbs x 1 set (21)

Ab Rollouts x 23

I do the routine straight through with minimal rest. Takes just under half an hour.

Disappointed to have only got 18 reps on the squats. I’ll get it next time. I think the week off hurt me.

Pleased to be able to barbell press without pain, didn’t think I’d get there. Now just need to get the weight respectable.

13 chins is one off my PR. Because I had to move my rack to a lower roofed part of the gym my face now hits the roofing felt which sprinkles grit in my face. Lovely.

Once I hit 25 reps on the rollouts I’m going to progress by rolling out on knees, then going up on to my toes and then rolling back. That’s the theory anyway, I haven’t tried it yet. Probably won’t be able to do one!

I’m going to start alternating 20 rep front squats and back squats. My new training goal is to squat 350 for 20. My all time PR is 315. I reckon it’s do-able.

Tonights front squats.

Actually, Americans recognize the phrase “warms the cockles of the heart”, never knew where it came from.

Those squats look painful! Your knees seem to be swaying a bit, but that’s nit-picking.

Is this your new house/cottage/whatever we’re looking at?

wow. i did 20 rep front squats once. i won’t tell you what weight i used though, ahem. clearly i didn’t do it right because i then did another set of 20. bloody hard work, but apparently you shouldn’t be able to stand after the first set. i’m thinking of getting stuck into 20 reps… maybe then my legs will grow…

Jesus Brett, doing that in 30 minutes is like real lifting combined with cardio.

Damn, that is just great work! Doing that straight through is absolutely impressive. What’s your goal with all of this work? Is there a reason you’re doing it straight through?
