I don’t remember a Simpson’s episode where they beat each others’ asses like this.
(adds fuel to the fire…)
And all those generic scenes were in some other television program long before the Simpsons or Family Guy, not that it really matters. Anyone with half a brain knows there’s very little on TV that’s truly original today.[/quote]
Really? You think shows were doing things like the greyhound humping scene before the Simpsons? The Simpsons not only pushed the envelope, they cut down the tree, took it to the papermill and created the envelope. I like FG, but it’s sad that it’s treated like this genius show full of original, over the top material. It’s just a decent show that “borrows” most of it’s source material and fills in the rest with random nonsense of all varieties.

Yeah, I agree with White Flash.

Actually, I doubt anyone here CARES whether they are “original”. I turn them on to laugh, not to judge whether anyone in history has thought of anything similar.
This is 2008. Humans have been on this planet for a long fucking time. To even credit the Simpsons as if they created the entire genre of comedy is retarded. There is no doubt in my mind that everything you credit them with has been done by someone similarly in some previous era at least once or twice.
I also haven’t seen anyone discredit the Simpson’s as they have made their place in television history, but let’s get serious. If you are tuning into a show just to criticize it or look for gags that have been done before, then you’ve missed the point.
Every famous comedian, singer or actor today credits someone else with being an influence.
There is nothing new under the sun. The only people who think differently are people under the age of 15.
This reminds me of any time I’ve moved furniture with someone, and why family guy is the greatest show ever.

Another example of humor that I honestly believe IS unique to Family Guy. I wish I could figure out exactly how to describe it, but it has to do with the dialogue (24sec - 29sec is what I mean). It’s more realistic than just about any other show.
