What I don’t get is why somebody would bitch about religion being made fun of while there is a pedophile on the show (I don’t actually give a fuck. I’m just sayin’…)

Thought I should chime in. As for Family Guy making fun of Islam, Allah etc, While you would think it’s ok to do because we live here in America it’s just not the way it works. Don’t any of you guys remember a few years back in I belive the Netherlands the riots and death threats leveled at a cartoonist for depicting Mohhammed in drawing. Or when the Ayatollah called for a Fatwa ie; guilt free death sentance on author Salman Rushdie for his book. The point I’m trying to make is this, while christian groups will complain and moan about shows like FG and South Park they really don’t do much. If however someone really offends the Islamic world especially in regards to their beliefs, or holy book/men they lose thier damn minds and actually do something about it.
So that means we’re scared? We’re the most powerful nation with the mostt powerful military in the world and we’re scared to make a joke of Muhammad because of what some man wearing a turban and diaper sitting in the middle of the desert might do?
The show would be a lot better if they never made Stewie a homo. He could have been the greatest character of all time. They really dropped the ball on that one.

Having read this thread, I hope they make Jesus jokes every episode from now on.

Yeah, keeping it ambiguous was probably the way to go.
I love family guy, always have. I don’t really have a problem with any of the topics they hit on. I think people are way to uptight these days. I do agree I havent seen them make fun of obama yet, I think that will come in due time though.

I’m sorry. Pointing out absurdities in the Bible was really insensitive of me. I had no idea you’d cry about it so easily. I’m really sorry I made you cry. I’d offer you a tissue and maybe a hug so you wouldn’t cry anymore, but it’s the internet and that is impossible.
I’ve attached a picture of another fellow crying baby so you feel like you have some company. Maybe then you’ll stop crying.
Sorry, I really hope your hurt little feelings get better soon,

Gold!
Basically in a nutshell, if you find it offensive, don’t watch. Right now,
free political speech as well as entertainment is being attacked on the radio.
Remember this anyone?

People get hostile when it comes to Jesus, just read some of the posts here, the thought of him and what he did makes them uncomfortable. So they make fun of him, just as people always have.

I onderstand that and I think family guy is funny, but i think if they make fun of one they should make fun of all. Why should we laugh when people make fun of Jesus yet get all bent out of shape when a soldier pisses on the Quran or whatever he did to it just to make the people, who by the way are supposed to be our enemies, happy?
I agree and while religions should be treated equally etc the difference in the mindset of the followers. Make fun of Christianity and you might get some angry letters, perhaps a boycott here and there and if you’re really unlucky a demonstration.
On the other hand if you make fun of Islam, things tend to get blown up.
Somehow I doubt that Family guy would be making fun of Christianity as much as they do if they risked having the studio bombed by doing so.
People tend to attack whatever religion they see as relevant to their lives.Bust body atheists dont go around saying that there isnt a super team of gods in the sky or there is no re carnation because its not involved in Christianity.
Papa Nick, I totally agree.
On another note, those of us on the forum who consider ourselves Christian have to realize we aren’t the big kids on the block anymore. We aren’t entitled to have our beliefs celebrated or even respected. So let’s get over it and live out our faith. ![]()
Also on a side note, there has been a huge trend for ‘intellectuals’ and academia to always be about questioning the status quo. Intellectuals have to devote their minds to some task, which means if you get a perfect society the intellectual(in the tradition of Zola) is out of work. Rosseau, Nietzche, all of the best playwrights and novelists, ALL of them are criticizing the status quo. That’s what they do.
And let’s remember, the people who are producing your movies are members of this intellectual class. They are going to keep doing the same thing. It gets old, but intellectuals have to have some drama and adventure in life.
I’m not saying all novelists have been humanists or anything, just that there has been a trend that really took off with Zola’s coverage of the Dreyfus case in France, and is evident with people like Chomsky and Rick Roderick to make their marks as intellectuals by questioning the status quo, the religion, the politics and the ‘bourgeois’ morality. Don’t take it seriously.
Also, this isn’t converting anyone. It’s just teaching the non-religious populace that it’s ok to laugh at the antiquated ideas of us Christians. Is it social engineering? Yes. Can we do anything about it? No. Since we can’t do anything about it, we might as well just move on and try our best to disprove the caricaturing of Christians in the media by living authentic Christian lives.
Gah…3:12 AM off to sleep
I always thought that christianity and islam actually believed in the same, “one god”. Doesn’t the koran acknowledge jesus as ONE of the prophets of that god? Each traces its lineage through that abraham (ibrihim?) guy… Therefore family guy and southpark ARE making fun of allah and a prophet. I guess its just that most muslims don’t see it that way because they have a particular favourite prophet and different name for god. They don’t rile up because it doesnt use the key words or images they hold particulary dear. But amounts to the same thing. That and they have that it’s “us vs the world” attitude. (which the US strangely shares)
In either case, the fact that they don’t use these names or images in cartoons for fear of retribution is a bold statement that the use of violence towards an end words. That terrorism works. They have drawn the line, stated a consequence of crossing it, demonstrated a willingness to go that far and now the corporate world won’t cross it. It’s fucked up, but i guess we should give them the credit of actually observing their beliefs rather then just saying it then going out a violating the tennets of their faith.
Ahhh, the world and its bullshit.
Maybe by starting on safe ground we can progressively work towards making fun of faiths that are more strict and reactive?

Just wait… in time, you will realize that it is, in fact, not funny ![]()
OR we can keep laughing at it. Sure, your posture may not be as good as it is now if you pull the stick half way out your ass, but your taste might surely improve.
To each their own.
I used to love Family Guy, I thought it was hilarious - it is very easy to laugh at.
Then, slowly, I realized that there is absolutely no content. It’s just one irrelevant “you think that’s bad” flashback after another, with some 80’s pop references thrown in and quick timing.
If that’s endless hilarity to you, so be it, but I find it pathetic.
Family Guy is to TV shows what Dane Cook is to comedians.
I like to laugh about something, not at it.
And trust me, I’m about the most laid back person you will ever meet.
