--Ezekiel Bread--

My girlfriend just brought home this bread made from “food for life.” It contains NO flour. Ingredients: sprouted wheat, sprouted barley, sprouted millet, malted barley, sprouted lentils, sprouted soybeans, sprouted spelt, filtered water, freash yeast, sea salt.
Nutritional breakdown: .5g fat, 15g carbohydrate, 3g fiber, 4g protein.
Get this, the protein is COMPLETE, and rates 84.5 on the BV scale! They claim that their srouting techniqes and baking process preserves alot to the nutrients in the ingredients, and that it releases benificial enzymes. AND it’s .50 cents cheaper than my organic stoneground whole wheat brand. Has anyone else heard of this bread? And since it contains no flour would it have a lower GI?

This is the bread I use. The GI is low but how low would be impossible to tell without testing. It is definitly healthier then regular bread IMHO

I can get several verieties of Ezekiel bread at the health store and at Publix grocery store. It is sold frozen because it has no preservatives. The verieties all seem to be what is on the crust (for example sesame seeds).

There are a number of different companies that make the bread.

It has a grainy kind of texture. I think it tastes fine. My son thinks it tastes like saw dust…

Because it has legumes (lentals and beans) the gylcemic index should be lower.

Background:

Ezekiel Bread is made from the ingredients the prophet Ezekiel was comanded to eat. I do not believe he had soy beans but rather some other type of bean.

In the book of Ezekiel chapter 4: Ezekiel is told to eat this bread for 390 days while lying on his left side and then 40 days lying on his right side. That’s 430 days living off of bread and water only. The bread is equal parts wheat and barley, beans and lentils, millet and spelt. Ezekiel was to measure out 20 shekels (8 oz) of food and make bread (like a barley cake) for himself each day. He was also to have 1/6 of a hin (0.6 liter) of water each day. As an added bonus Ezekiel was required to bake the bread over a fire made from cow manure.

I just bought another product from food for life.

Cereal. It’s plain and the coolest cereal ever for us nutrition buffs. I am going to add the cereal to my yogurt and oatmeal meals. I think it’s great!

The only question I have is what is the process of “sprouting.”

I am interested in that process they discuss on the back of the cereal box!

If someone with some understanding of this could speak up it would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Ezekiel Bread is great - try the cinnimon raison (sp). Get it at Trader Joes.

You can get it at Publix??? I’ve been going to Whole Foods all this time and it’s right in my regular supermarket? I’m going to have to start looking for it. It’s the only “bread” I eat.
