Ezekiel Bread

anyone ever hear of ezekial bread? opinions?
I’ve been eating the stuff lately, I love it.

i like eating

I’ll substitute it for 1/2 cup of oats when I won’t be anywhere near a microwave, or just can’t carry my cooler with me (I’ve been known to eat cold oatmeal before). The breakdown is very similar if you get the whole wheat version.

2 slices = 160 cals, 8g protein (complete) and 30g of carbs.
1/2 cup oats = 150 cals, 4g protein, and 27g of carbs (and can be stuffed in your jacket pocket!)

S

Yeah, it’s great stuff! I’ll usually eat it cold or toast it and slather some almond butter on top. I love the earthy, hearty, grainy texture of it!

The recent article in the link below has some pretty good things to say about sprouted grain breads like Ezekiel.

Ezekiel bread is a nice change of pace for carbs in the morning. I like eating it a lot more than oats.

Also easier to digest, especially if you toast it - much better for you.

Been buying it whenever I have the cash and I pass by the health food store for the past year and a half. They don’t sell it at my supermarket and its about $5-6.

What type is everyone eating? I’ve tried the original (and original low sodium), the bran for life (what I currently have in the freezer), and the multi-grain and wonder if any of the other kinds are worth trying out.

Great stuff, I’m actually eating it now  It’s the only bread I eat.

One thing, while it is lower glycemic than most bread as advertised on the bag, as with all bread toasting or otherwise cooking the bread will increase the GI.

This of course is offered with the fact that the GI is somewhat arbitrary.

Anyway, as the most current Tmuscle article on nutrition suggest, sprouted grains have a host of benefits beyond that of normal grains.

Trader Joe’s usually has it for about $3.50 around these parts, but I have to try and stay away for awhile, I’m addicted to the cinnamon raisin kind. The basic bread though is great in the mornings though, dense enough to feel like you’ve got something in your stomach after eating some toast and a protein shake.

The kind with the orange label over it. Today I got the wrong one, the purple one, that is like Cinnamon Raisin or some shit. But really even that is not bad for you, all the extra stuff is: organic rasins, and organic cinnamon (no added sugar).

thanks for the input.

I’ve been eating the sesame seed one.

There was an article I believe it was even on this site that said Freezing bread lowers the GI and toasting the bread lowers the GI. I’ll see if I can relocate it.

I have read that too.

Has anyone made Ezekiel bread? Is it easy to do? I’ve looked for it in the UK, but it costs about £1.40 for a 400g loaf (it’s called sprouted wheat bread here), which is silly.

Fairly easy.

Essene recipe is easy to follow, located here: http://www.motherearthnews.com/Real-Food/1984-01-01/Essene-Bread-Sprouted-Grain.aspx

Thanks, I think I’ll try that out.

Toasted a slice this morning, slathered some real butter and drizzled a small amount of honey on it…it was soooo good!!!

Ezekiel is the shit!! Their English muffins make awesome egg sandwiches!!

I do a stovetop bread pudding kind of thing with it, break up the bread into little pieces and soak it in egg whites, then cook it up in a skillet with salt, splenda, cinnamon and nutmeg. Good.
