No real advice, just saying I’ve been there too. Started the V-Diet Monday and what greets me when I walk in the lobby? Oh about 50 boxes of Krispy Kremes.
(Me looking to heavens) “Gee, thanks a lot!”
Well, one piece of advice I’ve seen was in Dan John’s thread when he was dieting. Basically it was telling yourself you can cheat tomorrow, just not today.

Hahaha awesome.
The fat asses where I work would fire me.
Haha. I’ve been scolded for this, but I still do it. I don’t want my friends and coworkers to eat that stuff either.

I was perusing the battle of the sexes thread (why it’s great to be a woman? I think) in the T-Vixen sorority, try this as a man and see what happens :-]

We need more people like you in this world chinadoll.
One could argue that it’s their bodies and they should be able to eat whatever they want, but it would seriously piss me off if I had to come into work everyday(like the OP) with that crap tempting me.
I’ve spent years fighting the effects of what feels like an addiction to crappy, sugary, over-processed food, and I don’t need other people putting in front of my face every day.
It’s like the staff at AA bringing in booze in their break room that they share with the alcoholics.

At work we had the usual candy bar charity set up in the break room. You know, “buy a candy bar to support Julie’s band trip to NYC” sort of crap. Well after a day or a two a couple of us on diets pooled our money, bought all the candy bars, gave them BACK to the woman selling them and asked her to not bring in any more.
Two days later some numbskull brought in a new batch for his son’s Webelo troup or something similarly moronic. So we started hiding them. Apparently somebody said something to him, because they were removed a couple days later.
Candy bar charities are pure evil. As are girls scout cookies and boy scout popcorn.

I tried the V-Diet for one day twice (yes, exactly as outlined), and both times I was ready to eat my desk by about 4pm. I’m not sure I can hack it.
But I may try again.
About 4pm is when it hits me hard too. I started bringing in celery, radishes and carrots for the hard part of the day. Some ass is sure to say “well, then it’s NOT a V-Diet” (you know who you are) but those keep me going in the late afternoon, even when not trying a V-Diet.
It helps to take a second divided dose of HOT-ROX around noon (I sometimes forget). Some 5-HTP might help too.
Hey man if it works for you, then do it! Celery and radishes are hands down better than snickers and butterfingers. (God I used to love butterfingers).
Screw anybody that would tell you not to do that… They are probably some pencil neck that couldn’t pack on 21" arms if they were on Deca.
The v-diet will work with the odd low carb veg filler e.g. bags of prepared mixed lettuce have virtually no calories but can be used to stave off the hunger pangs.
After 4 weeks of v-diet I lost my ‘can’t stop at just one cookie/chocolate’ habit forever and now anything made with processed sugar tastes vile.

How can you NOT love Butterfingers? I love them too, but I haven’t had one in years.
Sometimes around 4-5pm I’ll look longingly at the vending machine, then I’ll just remind myself, “You’re better than that.”
Sometimes I mistakenly go through the motions, (like the other day) and buy a bag of chips. Nothing says you have to eat the whole bag. After eating about 1/3 I realized what I was doing, smushed the bag in my fist for good measure and threw it out.

Hey that’s pretty strong - at this point I have to practice total absintance.
Someone mentioned getting fat curbs the cravings, and I have also noticed this. I use Carlson’s liquid fish oil instead of caps and I find on days when I don’t take my bottle to work with me or go a long time in between fish oil doses I get more cravings - but once i drink a swallow of fish oil I feel much better and lose that ‘carb crave’ edge.

Somebody once told me that the monounsaturated fats are better at cutting cravings, so maybe some extra virgin olive oil would help better than fish oil. I understand monounsaturates help improve your lipid profile too.

So true. Sugar and junk food seem like an addiction for some people.
You’re a nurse, so you should understand how much blood sugar can affect people. Insulin resistance and “syndrome X” can be a bitch. I know. Addiction? Altered brain activity? Hell yes.
(BTW, good to see the earthquakes didn’t do you in.)

Isn’t it bad enough that the staff at AA insist on programming their subjects with the negative stigma of always being an alcoholic? But that’s another thread.
I, for one, have started programming myself to be “healthy, fit and strong.” I’ve decided to mold my universe to suit me, and a little positive energy goes a long way. Especially when walking past the candy machine.

I like olive oil, its my exclusive cooking oil. But I wont be getting any until after my V-Diet is over. At this point - if its not in the V-diet, I don’t get it.
