Experiences with Pregnenolone

I agree. It would be informative if @physioLojik can elaborate. And if his patients on trt take pregnenolone.

Also if dhea and preg are the type of hormones that do not have to be at the top range? And if just being in range is ok. @unreal24278

throw up some numbers so we have a reference. I eat quite a bit of whole eggs, as well as whole fat milk and cottage cheese. I haven’t checked my preg levels yet though.

My total cholesterol is 113, so this may be my problem…

@charlie12 I put guys on preg if they have confirmed issues with adrenals via DUTCH study. If they don’t have this and adding salt and adrenal grands and of adaptogens don’t work we can try preg

Your cholesterol is way too low for sure.

I wonder if this might be the cause for my low testosterone (329). I used to be vegan for 10 years and about a year ago I found out that my cholesterol is pretty low. I started eating avocados, coconut milk, nuts, olive oil (a lot of all this) but last week it turned out that my numbers dropped even lower (total cholesterol 113, HDL 27, LDL 73). Since the weekend I started eating eggs (3 to 5 a day), as an experiment to see if this will affect my cholesterol and my testosterone. The next test is in a couple of weeks.

However, since I am taking pregnenolone and DHEA, the cholesterol should not really be needed (since it is upstream), or am I missing something?

Hell yes you’re missing something. Cholesterol does a hell of a lot in your body besides provide raw materials for hormones. You’re not on a statin are you?

phys my DHEA-S was very high pre TRT… could this mean my adrenals are suffering

I’m taking dhea and Preg and a month out I’m feeling better progressively. Not sure if this is why but I am and when I forgot to take my meds for 3 days I was feeling blah.

Docs do check there trt and in the know. Otherwise most docs don’t even understand estrodial… forget Preg or dhea and etc

My good friend was vegan for a few years to. He had serious thyroid and hormonal issues.s he started eating meat and his issues vanished. He also says he was training to hard on the bike racing career.

I think some folks are having bodies that adapt to certain diets and others suffer.

You ever check the am cortisol and acth? That’s good to help evaluate adrenals

i did salavial cortisol test and i am unsure about ACTH

I am not on statins. I believe my low cholesterol is diet related, but then I also keep reading that the body makes all the cholesterol it needs itself and does not need any from food. But I am not sure if this is always the case.

I have two questions in regards to testosterone:

  1. It seems to be LDL that is used for hormone production, at least according some flowcharts I have seen. Mine is 86 and this does not seem that low, compared to my HDL.
  2. If I take pregnenolone and DHEA, does cholesterol even matter?

Wooow what you’re reading is way off base. You need cholesterol from food lol and LDL/HDL are transport proteins - not even cholesterol whatsoever.

Correct. It can take 5 years to correct deficiencies from these diets especially done the way they are in the west. Super deficient in key aminos like tryptophan and tyrosine - building blocks of dopamine and serotonin not to mention super high in omega 6 and super low in 3 so Uber inflammation present.

Thanks for the links, but I don’t disagree that cholesterol is not bad, I just can’t find any scientific literature stating that exogenous cholesterol is necessary. All I can find over and over again is that 80 to 90% of the cholesterol in the body is not from food. Also, according to these sources the body regulates the amount of cholesterol it is producing, depending on the intake through food.
I also do not understand how cholesterol is needed for testosterone production when I supplement with pregnenolone/DHEA.

Cholesterol is the precursor to steroidal hormones, when we become deficient in pregnenolone, DHEA, testosterone, progesterone, our body responds by over producing cholesterol in an attempt to restore healthy hormone balance.

I went back and looked at old tests. My progesterone was always around 0.2 and now that I supplement pregnenolone my progesterone it showing high at 1.7 (0-1.4 ng/ml). I may drop my supplement to 10mg but I can 100% say I feel like a rock star when I take pregnenolone! I’m not sure if it’s something like testosterone where you can take too much but I really love this stuff. It’s pretty cheap on amazon. It really lifts my mood and I feel like skipping on the way to work.

What has been your experiences with oral vs transdermal? I’ve read that oral pregnenolone is not absorbed very well and transdermal has much higher bioavailability…
