Been experimenting with pregnenolone, and the last few days (after a relatively successful 2 weeks), it barely has any effect.
I’ve read that in people not on TRT (i.e. people who produce their own pregnenolone), a tolerance does form, and people eventually “crash” from taking too much.
I’ve eased off a bit until I learn more about this so that I don’t end up feeling worse. At first, 20mg seemed to really hit the spot. Now, even 30mg just gives me a ton of anxiety.
Thoughts?
It’s a funny hormone.
I go in spurts taking 25mg in the morning. Most times I take it, I get a really good mental clarity from it. More talkative and sociable.
I did have my dr test my preg levels after starting trt and they were super low out of range (not surprisingly)
I have a theory that preg and perhaps DHEA do in fact help with libido and sex drive. When OFF trt, I had a tiny sex drive, with likely really low levels of Preg, as my testosterone levels were really low.
Starting TRT, exogenous test kills off a lot of the production of preg, and SOME people get zero libido from TRT… but, like me, had it prior to.
We are suppose to still produce pregnenolone
on TRT. Unless we develop adrenal issues.
Pregnenolone is produced mainly in the adrenal glands, the gonads, and the brain. Although pregnenolone is also produced in the gonads and brain, most circulating pregnenolone is derived from the adrenal Cortex
We do, but most will only produce a little.

What are your DHEA-s levels?
Here’s mine rescoe. I could imaging the hormone fluctuates depending on need of all the downstream hormones it produces.
Now I tested both pregnenolone and progesterone. Remember pregnenolone comes first.

DHEA S was 171 (range 110-370)
Mine was 200 after I stopped dhea supp
It’s strange that my Preg levels are soooo low, but my DHEA levels were normal.
Was I don’t like is my AM cortisol was on the low end. But I felt good. Anyway my endo looked at the results and wants to see me.
There is an reason why i stopped dhea. If I have adrenal insufficiency. Dhea s and am cortisol are usually low.
We all different. Understand I started an ARB and beta blocker 2 months ago.
That’s why I agree with @physioLojik. Unless I have dx adrenal insufficiency i don’t think I’ll supplement. The body knows what it is Doing.

I guess that seems counterintuitive to me regarding preg.
If you’re on TRT, youre not sending the signal for chole to turn into preg. Or so I thought.
How can a reference range include zero? So zero preg or prog would be normal?

Preg was hard to figure out for me. It definitely helped in a few areas. I was only able to incorporate consistently when I dropped the dose considerably and only sublingual. So 5-10mg per day sublingual. I got the anxiety/heart palp anything higher than that.
