OK so for anyone who has run 5/3/1… I just finished my first cycle and that was the first time I’ve had a “deload week” in my entire lifting life. After my first day of cycle 2 (yesterday) I have the craziest upper body DOMS I’ve ever experienced. I feel like I’ve never lifted before. Is this normal after a deload week?
Literally every muscle in my upper body is ablaze today.

Spend more time in over 35 and ask that question. Probably 90% of the guys over there have done it or are still doing 5/3/1, I did it for 2 years.
Question did you raise your weights for the second cycle?

I raised my working 1RM the prescribed amount on bench. In 4 weeks went from 220x7 to 225x8.
But I am sore EVERYWHERE - I didn’t raise weight in bodyweight chins or kroc rows. Actually my performance went down in a couple exercises (partially cause of deloading, partially because I was so gassed from that bench when I almost blew an artery trying to lock out a 9th rep on bench)

Do you have a log on here?[/quote]
scj119, yes, I’ve run it before, and yes, I have experianced this issue as well. It is probably just your body adjusting to the new stimulus. I always have doms pretty bad if I hit a bodypart really hard after a long lay off from training it. In your case, a week may have been long enough for this to occur. Just make sure you get enough food/rest to recover, and also, pay attention to your stretching, warmups, and mobility work. I have found that this really helps alleviate doms.
