Spent all day yesterday on the couch, and still feel lousy this morning…
I like training hard and the drinking just works counter to what my goals should be.
AND…did some things while under the influence that I never EVER would have done sober. (dancing, singing, carrousing, pinching, etc…)
for some of us there is no middle ground. well… for me and booze there really fucking isn’t. Accepting that I’m not in control is hard but in the long run setting the limit (limit=0) really empowering. You find out a lot of shit about yourself you never may have wanted to know. Day by day. LOOONG run. give yourself the chance to do something different. (brought to you by PBS: The More You Know!) but srsly, im not joking.
AND…don’t want to be on the liver doner list.
been spending alot of time kicking myself in the ass lately.
Meh. There’s a lesson in there somewhere. I always feel like an ass the next day but because my mouth gets me in ALOT of trouble. It’s a miracle people still talk to me. (:
Better than your Ass getting you in trouble, I suppose…
Just wish I had the courage to quit, but I KNOW that I’ll be back at it.
I imagine what my training would be like if I did quit…
Here’s what I’ve been told. People like us, we can’t look at it as quitting forever. It’s just a decision to not drink that day, made every day, that eventually gets easier.
THIS is some goooooood advice.
I hardly drank when the kids were small, didn’t really have time, with soccer, baseball, basketball, football, The kids played in the worship band at church then started thier own rock band in HS…
In other words, we were fucking BUSY as hell…then when they went off to college, and I had some more time, changed jobs and just got into the habit. But my training went through the roof too, so they both have increased hand-in-hand…ya’know?
This is true, PMPM…thanks for reminding me.
Well, I don’t believe in quitting. Then it becomes drinking=fail. I’m looking for that middle ground where I can have some fun and not be the oddball. Since labor day weekend, I’ve drank twice and feel good about those times so I’m on the right track.
Pops, why do you think you lack the courage NOT to drink?
There is no courage in not doing something. That is restraint, only when you do something do you show courage. And today’s word of the day is temperance, to drink moderately or as Thomas Aquinas said, drink 'til hilarity.
I think most people that do not drink, do so because they’re afraid of their true selves. Virtue and shame both show through when filled with spirits.

No interest in the KKK. I just don’t get disgusted by them, or really any group except for one. I just seen enough stupid shit to realise that I should just ignore it. I think they are sheep fucking retards personally, and I don’t tolerate listening to all that hateful shit they spew.
I’ve only personally ran into the KKK once and it was unpleasant as could be, but I handled it properly and they left me alone.
Alright, just making sure you’re not some internet KKK wanna be.
Come on Wol, I’m blacker than you. What you think I’m Chappell?

Wow. Chris could say the sky was blue and you still would disagree with him. Grudges are so yesterday.
Not true Toots. I disagree that people have to drink in order to reveal their true selves. I don’t grudge BC.

No doubt, I’ve done things drunk that have made me not want to get like that anymore, which is why I don’t. I used to think “why drink if I’m not going to get smashed?” and that lead to badness, so I just avoid it for the most part now. I’m old enough now to be responsible, drink a couple beers overy once in a while with friends, but not anything like I used to.
Like on deployments, when you pull into port, there’s pretty much nothing to do but drink, especially when you’re under 21 and can still drink anywhere else in the world, but home.
Oh, and DF, you’re right, Arizona blows assholes ![]()
Since I quit drinking I haven’t gotten arrested once!

Negative, i don’t drink for 3 reasons.
1: It tastes and smells terrible, bitter, sour and disgusting.
2: My parents are both alcoholics, and i saw many of the negative effects firsthand both emotional/mental and physical(my mom almost died because of it).
3: I don’t like not having complete control of my motor functions. As a kid watching the drunks stumble, bumble and fumble around like incapacitated idiots never appealed to me.
Now if you drink, fine i don’t judge. I really don’t care too much about alcohol and others drinking. I personally dislike it and will not touch it. I see no problem with responsible drinking and knowing one’s limits and staying within them. There’s a big difference between enjoying a few drinks and getting stupid drunk.
Now tobacco, in particular cigarrettes on the other hand… I hate that shit like Hitler hated the jews!
