what does it feel like to have that much money all of a sudden?
Oh, it’s exciting, but not really all of a sudden though. I have a semi-serious gambling bankroll. I brought on the trip 10k in cash and 10k in chips.
…holy shit. Not enough to be a big leaguer but sure as hell a more than semi-serious. How often is this that your going? Should we have a tmsucle intervention?
So far this year maybe 2 times a month for poker games (tournaments/game afterwards), I mostly play on the computer. However, serious going to the casino maybe ten times.
Well, the serious part about the bankroll is relative I suppose, I have a partner who has a bank into the upper five digits. The cash are my personal bank, the chips were not.
No intervention.
I’ve always thought of doing something like this but it seems like it would be a slippery slope. Got any advice on how to get started?

What are you looking to do?
To be honest I’d be happy with making what you just did one or twice a year.

Yes, so would I. You have to understand that this was a rare cash and grab game and I had an up swing in luck this week, plus with the promotion they had I had about 5% advantage w/o counting cards. (Avg. Bet $225/hand, 50 hands/hour, 2 hands-bets on a table, 4 hours a day, 4 days. $225(.05)=$11.25*(502)=$11254hrs=$4500*4days=$18000 for the trip).
I’m not really good at explaining, but I’ll do my best. First, you won’t win. Yes, it is the truth most people during their gambling careers operate in the red. The rare individual will operate in black or green. The even rarer person will have the patience and work ethic to hunt/find the right tables and the knowledge to make a unbeatable game, a paying game.
I’ll explain, most games of blackjack are set to a 1-1.5% advantage to the casino, which is damn good for players relatively to the rest of the table games. But, the objective of being a professional gambler is to find a table with the best advantage for the gambler. Then to have a flawless basic strategy which isn’t hard to do, it just takes practice. Then you have to learn how to count cards, &c. then finally get on the tables and work out your mistakes until you have your game down.
Hopefully with finding the right tables with the right rules, having perfect basic strategy, knowing a good counting game, hole card theory you’ll be able to shift the advantage for the casino to 1.5% to .5-15% advantage to you. I’ve only seen one game of 15% and it was shut down quick.
But the big thing is patience and work ethic. With luck (there is a statistician name for it, but really it’s what people refer to when they say luck) you’ll have huge wins, and losing streaks that are so big you’ll think the streak will out live you. That’s the reason to have a few more games under your belt and a big bankroll so your ratio-ruin is almost nill. However, poker is another game which you play against other players and just hunt for fish instead of a hot table, much easier to do because in any casino you can sit down and wait until some greenhorn sits down thinking he’s a big shot and take all his money.
Here is a good site to start: http://blackjackforumonline.com/content/IntroWinningBJ.html
But just remember, patience and work is still involve and luck is a dirty cheating bitch.
