Beans, you’re my inspiration for squats dude. You’re a fucking beast, and should change your name to CountingReps or something, TheCountingBeast maybe.
But then you’d lost the ‘beans’ - ‘bean-town’ relationship…
Lol, thanks man. I think I work on hitting higher weights for a week or four then go back to the widows (I again am listening to other people, which is a fucking amazing thing I tell you, amazing.). I want 315 fucking bad, but I know if I keep pushing at this point I’ll just drive myself into the ground.
I want it tho. I want it more than Bass wants boobs, Trav wants court and Court want penis.

That’s what I’m hoping. Push the upper limit of volume until I can’t recover from it. (IE failing on 305x20 squats hardcore.) Then go back to 4-8 range.
Although I may stay 8-10 for back work, but who knows.
I’m a firm believer in “dance with the bitch that brought you.” And getting strong and hoping the size will follow got me here. But I need to add some size to get stronger at this point.
It is really fucking weird you brought all this up man. It was just explained to me recently in a way that I understood it. lol. Like, very recently, lol.
jesus this is weird.
Really?
How so?

315x20 would be bad fucking ass. First I need to get it for 1, then I shoot for 20

I literally had it explained to me why I needed volume right now at like 6pm this afternoon. Even thought I don’t think he directly intended to do it.
I made up my mind to do it a couple days ago, it was worded in a way I understood today, and responding to you really brought it all together in my head.
Fucking weird dude.

Exchange trip. I paid half my way with car washes/bake sales/newspaper money, and my grandparents paid the other half.
beans, this is a starting setup.
I know it says “weight loss” but again, with your protein intake, don’t worry.
I think I can dig up a ‘technique video’ link if you need it.
You’ve got enough common sense to do it as an accessory type thing, so just move the longer, less intense intervals to your heavier back or leg days, and do the faster shorter intervals on chest/shoulder/etc days.
A couple of other tips:
for the easy days or days when you’re feeling totally bagged, aim for 18-22 strokes a minute, but go for 12-16ish minutes for oh about a few sets. there’s the possibility of feeling like a toolbag, because you’ll be going less intense than most of the people we make fun of on here, but just remember you’re doing “active recovery”
On the high energy days aim for 28-32 strokes/minute,
[I’ll just lay out an example post workout set up for me]
(Aiming for 6x3 minute sets @ 28-32s/min)
set 1. brisk warm up
rest ~2 min
2. Go hard.
rest, wait for pulse to drop to 120
3. Go moderately hard, maybe sprint for the last :30 if I think I can catch set 2’s distance.
rest till pulse drops…
4. Go ‘Easy’ 28 strokes/minute, not worrying about my time/distance, just smoothness
wait for pulse to drop.
5. Decide that I’m burnt out from the earlier curls or mil presses or whatever and stressing over the last 2 sets won’t lead to any more progress. so I might pack up, or do you know 6ish minutes at 24-28 strokes/minute.
If you’re starting out I’d even just do it 1 or 2 days of the week to see if you like it, because the movement does involve your hips to a fair degree, (but is not a jarring impact, so it should be okay)
post-rowing stretches that help:
(If anyone who knows yoga is reading feel free to correct this, because I know I suck at the terminology)
Cobra pose: face down, toes down, hands near the hips push the ground, and elevate the chest to vertical.
A hybrid Downward-Dog/Child Pose: where you kneel, lean forward at the hips, stretch your arms forward, and gently rock your hips <-seems to loosen the hams & glutes, just don’t be doin’ these moves in a public shower.
If you want anymore brainstorming, here or PM is fine.
Or we could start a thread in the bodybuilding forum, to see how many batshit-crazy psychotics we can draw fire from.

Monday I got 205x8, so I’d say a bit over 250 max? It is low, but it’s gone up drastically since starting 5/3/1 less than three months ago.
My knees feel like absolute shit when I back squat nowadays, I’ve been pre exausting with extensions so they feel good and my numbers are garbage because of it. Last squat session was the last straw, they just felt like garbage and I couldn’t do anything without about 4 sets of extensions, and after that I could only get 275x6. I’ve been reading about Bruno’s experience with knee pain and I think in addition to getting some knee sleeves I’m going to swap back squats (the only movement with pain) for leg press. I can still front squat okay so that should maintain some semblence of strength on the lift I imagine.
I don’t remember how a front squat works your body differently but I do recall it’s easier on the knees.
It’s also more quad dominant, so maybe the quads handle more of the stress, and relieve the knees?
That might be complete and udder bullshit though, I don’t know for sure.

When I first started squatting maybe 8-9 yrs ago, I felt it all in my hams. They were monsters.
Now I can actually feel it in my quads, they burn like a mofo. I know it has to do with depth, but it’s a huge difference.
I just listened to my mother ramble on in a phone call and I swear I only listened to every 10th word. Ugh. She isn’t even that old and I get the classic run down of all her damn doctor appts. Double ugh.

Back squats, with good depth, tear up my hams and glutes.
Front squats rip my quads more, but I still feel it 'round back

My trainer from back in the day used to make me do front squats all the time cause my quads would get nothing. Now I just do back squats (until I am the master) and I feel them alot more. It makes me wonder what the hell I was doing before.

Kitties!
