Dumb & Dumber?
Just how much is there to learn about teeth? I’ve heard it can be tough and highly stressful but it seems pretty straight forward to me from the outside.
There’s actually quite a lot more to learn about teeth than I ever realized. Not to mention saliva, the temperomandibular joint, soft tissues, oral cysts & cancers, biophysics of chewing, the myriad of treatment options available & how to perform them, treatment planning, patient management, and even general medicine so we know how to manage patients who have complicated systemic conditions…

And when we’re done doing the book learning, we still need to practice the skills. Mostly on our own time. While racking up hundreds of thousands of dollars of student debt.

Good thing I’m loving it, otherwise I’d be ready to end it right about now. Then again, I wouldn’t want to perpetuate the stereotype.
Yep! Dumb and dumber.

So basically it’s more than cleaning teeth? I thought specialists did all that stuff.

Yeah, besides bucking stereotypes, I would imagine quitting hundreds of thousands in debt would be a life altering, bad decision.

Tight & right too.

Dumb & Dumber?

Yes, much more than cleaning teeth lol. Hygienists do most of the cleaning in private practice anyways.

A general dentist can do most of the stuff specialists do, depending on how much continuing ed they take, and how comfortable they are with the basics of all the different specialties. Some dentists prefer to just “drill & fill”, while others like a wider variety, or may even focus on things like root canals like a specialist might.

I’m thinking I like the variety. So far, at least.

Dumb & Dumber?

I don’t think dentists do much teeth cleaning.

That’s done by the dental assistant or whatever they call themselves.

Yep! We have to learn how to do it in dental school though. It’s a bitch to do, not easy at all. I’m gonna have a huge appreciation for the hygienists I work with.

Print, I never try to bring any “big ouch”… I’m a lover, don’t forget that. :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice to see besides being overwhelmed w/school that things are going well for you. Your sexiness is sorely missed. Than again maybe it’s the lube I’m using.
