Just how much is there to learn about teeth? I’ve heard it can be tough and highly stressful but it seems pretty straight forward to me from the outside.

There’s actually quite a lot more to learn about teeth than I ever realized. Not to mention saliva, the temperomandibular joint, soft tissues, oral cysts & cancers, biophysics of chewing, the myriad of treatment options available & how to perform them, treatment planning, patient management, and even general medicine so we know how to manage patients who have complicated systemic conditions…
And when we’re done doing the book learning, we still need to practice the skills. Mostly on our own time. While racking up hundreds of thousands of dollars of student debt.
Good thing I’m loving it, otherwise I’d be ready to end it right about now. Then again, I wouldn’t want to perpetuate the stereotype.
