byukid,
Out of curiosity, do you feel the “eyes of ignorance” upon you and your faith and traditions? I mean, if you were to consider living in another part of the country where Mormons were not common, do you think you’d be comfortable (at least initially) or would it take time?
Do you feel “ostracized” so to speak?
To be honest, I am fine with being looked at differently. I am not shy about what I believe, but I think I am able to present it in a palatable way. I like answering questions, and sometimes after talking with other Mormons, I’d much rather someone get their info from me than a lot of Mormons.
I’ve lived in areas where I was the only Mormon kid in my class, and I liked it fine. Sometimes when there are too many Mormons, standards get lax- they get a little too comfortable. I have never known anyone who has been uncomfortable being around me because of what I believe, though people often times change their language, which I appreciate.
The only thing that bugs me is when other people decide what I believe, and won’t take my correction, or they imply that if I was really Mormon I wouldn’t believe that way.
So you are (have been?) more bothered by OTHER Mormons than by non Mormons, right?
That sort of answered my question, but I didn’t mean that YOU, as a Mormon, make people uncomfortable, I meant:
Have you ever felt that uncomfortable because you thought eyes were on you for being Mormon, for being a minority (in terms of faith)? Or has that thought never crossed your mind? I guess I’m asking if you’ve ever felt insecure for being a minority.
