I’ve always understood it as whoever does the invite pays for the night. That’s how my circle has always been.

Even if the person is a girl? Seems kinda weird. Its an understanding between the others that we pay our own way unless one of us were feeling generous or were really strapped for cash and its a catch 22 for me because I was raised to never accept money.
Eh, with SOME friends who really are considerate and thoughtful of the financial situation of others, that mentality—he/she who invites, pays, especially if they know you can’t afford the night—but with most people, they forget by the end of the night. I dont’ like to expect it myself and will insist on not going out, but I have a buddy who, with his wife, have been very generous to me over the years when I’ve been in school. Great couple, too.
I have FEW friends who I’m considering discussing money situation with.

I don’t see it as accepting money. Its the same as if you come to my house, its my obligation to make you as pleased as possible while we are together. If someone asks you to be a guest they should treat you like one.
