Looks like IH started the make-out party without us.
Um, without ANYONE.

You have no idea how accurate that is…
Deb, don’t be afraid to try and fail. I fail all the damn time and I like to think I’m not too weak either. If we don’t fail and everything is easy, then what’s the fun in reaching new goals. I vote that you should make a end of year goal of breaking 200 for your deadlift. Definitely doable in my opinion for ya. Who knows maybe you can do it now. Go rock that shit out. If you do plan on going for a PR give that progression I said a try with ample of rest between the 165, 185, 200.

I like the idea of 200 by the end of the year.
*Edit – glad I’m low carbin’ cuz I may never look at a baked potato the same again TOOTS! ;0

Heh, I see you never been to my log.
I like PL more than BB but when preparing for Figure, gotta do the high reps too.

Youre doin a figure competition? How did I miss this? When are you competing?
Eh, I only said it once in my journal, just because someone wanted to know why I was cutting.
I’ll be competing in July. Giving myself enough time to drop some fat and improve my weaknesses… pretty much everything is my weakness though
WEll that’s definitely awesome nikki. Personally, when I’m cutting down for the summer to have the Hawt Abz (OMG!) I still lift as heavy as I can. I’ve found that if I switch to high rep type stuff for more then 2-3 weeks I just end up shedding a ton of muscle and strength. When I keep my powerlifting focus while cutting down and just add a little bit more cardio in I tend to have much better results in terms of how I look. That’s just been my personal experience, there are of course, 10 different ways to skin a cat (yah see what I did there toots).

I’ve seen your logs, and some of them, I think you could get away with 1/5th of your volume.
Hmm interesting, goes to show how everyone is different.
I don’t think 1-3 rep ranges are the only ways to lift heavy though. I consider myself to lift heavy even though I’m doing 8-10 reps.
Competitors like Ava emphasize how she has to lift heavy year round, especially since she’s natural so she can maintain her muscle, but lifts in the 6-10 rep range.

I only have one ![]()
Yep, I’m sure I can but I enjoy how I work out. And my body does too so I stick with what I like and works for me.

Heavy is relative. If you can lift something 8-10 times, it isn’t relatively heavy to you. For instance I deadlifted 430 for 10 the other week, which would be heavy for you, decently easy for me, and probably just straight up light for someone like Jim Wendler. Heavy is as said, relative. If you look at it from a % basis, if you’re lifting something 6-10 times, chances are it’s closer to 60% of your 1RM, which obviously when you look at it that way doesn’t seem that bad.
Deb, day after thanksgiving…You…carb loaded to the max…200 dl easy…EASY!!!
Of course, 1RM and 10RM are complete opposites.
I just don’t think that higher reps always encourage muscle loss. Mainly because I don’t see that effect in me, I’m seeing the opposite of that actually.
If I did 12 reps of squats though and didn’t feel like I wanted to lay down on the floor for 10 minutes though, then I deserve to lose what little muscle I have ![]()
Ooh Deb you’ll get that 200 DL for sure.
Goals make me so excited ![]()
nikki strength gains/loss are different from muscle gains/loss.
One can gain muscle mass and strength in any rep ranges. But, typically with higher reps you hypertrophy more than at the lower rep ranges. And at lower rep ranges strength gains come faster than at higher rep ranges.
double win, is using the strength gains from lower reps to man handle heavier weights at higher reps.
For beans:
percentages, 5x5, traps
Trav:
NUMBERS!!!
Yeah I know that. I’m just aiming for more hypertrophy than strength for a few more weeks, then I’ll be aiming for more strength than hypertrophy from there.

This.
A bigger muscle will beget a stronger muscle, and a stronger muscle will beget a bigger muscle.
Hope that clears it up.
^^ yeah which is why I include both high and low reps in my cycles.
Did any cool stuff today Beans?
