Yeah, sorry about that. Caught a preview screening. I got ahead of myself and forgot to mention it doesn’t go on general release until Friday.

Lol its cool man, just busting your chops. Now have to wait some how and catch it next week.

I will say thanks again cause I had NO plans on watching this.

I have some time to kill tomorrow evening out of town on business. So what is out now that is worth watching? Lawless? Or go ahead and see the new Bourne?

No need to thank me. My motivations are totally selfish. I just need to hype Dredd into the black so I get the planned sequels  …seriously though, while it’s deliciously violent, it doesn’t ignore the aftermath of violent acts (Dredd and Anderson actually debate it, which is why I put it above The Raid in certain areas), and that’s more than can be said for a lot of movies which sneak bloodless violence past the censors, cut away from the corpses and carry on as if nothing had happened…

I haven’t seen Lawless, but I know that’s another movie which doesn’t balk at violence (some poor schmuck gets tarred and feathered in the red band trailer)…

Bourne isn’t bad, but most agree that it isn’t as good as the previous three and doesn’t work hard enough to stand alone.

Am I the only one who saw Lawless? I thought it was pretty Badass. High testosterone prohibition with a old western type of feel. No hidden plots, you know who the bad guy is and you know who can’t fight but a whole lot of quality violence.

So an old expendables?

I got roped into 45 minutes of “Battleship”. Once the action started I could feel brain cells dying. It was like a modern-day Armageddon. Rihanna’s acting was so bad that she made Tommy Morrison in “Rocky 5” seem like Oscar material. Avoid at all costs![/quote]

Funny you should compare it to Armageddon: Peter Berg said he wanted to try his hand at the type of “super-movie” pioneered by Michael Bay, so it’s one director aping another- which wouldn’t be so bad if he wasn’t trying to emulate a guy who has already taken high-concept movie making to the point where if you just give the audience motion sickness they might be too disoriented to notice that they’ve seen a bad movie.

Trollhunter. Go watch it right now. You can thank me later.

I watched most of this movie last fall. It was pretty entertaining, but got old in the second half of the movie(I didn’t watch it all). A really cool pseudo-documentary.

I watched limitless this weekend. Good movie, but I was left with a “Wtf?” at the end. Could have been a better movie with a more solid ending.

Ha Ha…and too disoriented to feel the insult. That does make sense. “Battleship” was about as jam-packed full of cliche’s and milked laughs as any Micheal Bay movie. I like what Roger Ebert said about Armageddon. It is a “150 minute trailer…any 30 second clip of the movie is a tv add.”

I thought “Limitless” was awesome. I think he had gained so much wealth and power that by the end of the movie he was able to continually change the drug to where his brain would never fully adapt, therefore keeping him from being a full on addict. Him speaking chinese to the waiter was a give-away that he was still “using”. I liked the ending.

Finally saw Cabin In The Woods (thanks redbox)

So awesome. Loved that movie.

Yep. Once the cat was out of the bag it was sort of redundant. They could have finished the movie with them all being trapped in the cave. The first hour or so was the shit though.

I saw it with the wife last weekend. I give it an 8/10. Tom Hardy’s character is fucking awesome. Shia Lebooooooooooooooof fit his role very well. Guy Pearce is amazing, as usual.

It’s a character-driven story, since the plot (prohibition-era gangsters vs. The Law) is so familiar and straightforward. The acting talent is sufficient to pull this off IMO.

Worth seeing in the theaters just because it’s good, though I don’t feel the big screen adds anything essential to the viewing experience as it does with more action-oriented movies.

Mid-life crises are an inevitable fact of life, and men deal with that encroaching feeling of old age in more or less the same way. They might go for a brisk run to shake off the cobwebs, maybe go for a spin in a fast car, or take up a new hobby like rock-climbing.

If you’re Hollywood royalty like Tom Cruise, you get to do all of that on an all-expenses paid trip to Dubai, scale the world’s tallest building, film it all in 3D and release it to the public as Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol - which would be more accurately subtitled Tom Cruise’s Extreme Sports Vacation Video.

Sit on it, Tom.

The Cabin in the Woods - Best “horror” movie I’ve seen in a long time. It wasn’t scary at all, but it was thoroughly entertaining. Can’t really go into any detail without spoiling the whole thing. 8/10

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - Nice drama about a boy whose father died in the WTC on 9/11. Very emotional story. I liked it. 8/10

Snow White and the Huntsman - The main thing that held this movie back was Kristen Stewart. She’s not a good actress, and it really limits the depth of her character. Chris Hemsworth was solid, and Charlize Theron is proving to me that she is more than capable of being a convincing and hate-worthy villain. I liked everything about this movie except for Stewart. 7/10

My rating scale is like this, FWIW:

1 - Turned it off after 20 min
2 - Turned it off before the end
3 - Sat through it while telling myself I should turn it off the whole time
4 - Sat through it and immediately regretted wasting 2 hours of my life
5 - Didn’t enjoy it but didn’t feel time was completely wasted
6 - Liked a few parts, overall was just OK
7 - Enjoyed the majority of the movie; felt it could have been improved in obvious areas
8 - Enjoyed the whole movie; no major complaints; would watch again
9 - Impacted me mentally or emotionally in some significant way; will watch again
10 - Top movie of all time; will watch numerous times and end up knowing the dialogue line-for-line

The worst rating most movies can get is a 5, because if I’m deciding to watch it, it means I’ve been meaning to see it for some time.

Yup I saw Cabin in the Woods also…Loved it, Horror Movie, Satire, Conspiracy, Comedy, Some tits and ass all rolled into one…great idea and really well done.

The Watch - Sometimes, critics and people need to take a movie for what it is and this movie, though thoroughly retarded, was funny and lighthearted. I mean ALiens in Costco? What did you expect? Sophies Choice? I like Vaughn, Stiller and Hill so I liked this movie.

Dummy - An older Adrien Brody film…Brody is a great actor and this is a cool little movie about a guy who becomes unemployed and is very introverted. He takes up ventriloquism and falls for his unemployment counselor. Hes got a fucked up family which collide with his possible love affair.

Detachment - Saw this a while ago, but this movie really affected me in a profound way…with my wife being a teacher in NYC it hit home. Gut wrenching at times but well worth the watch. Brody plays a substitute teacher who while fighting his own demons creates complicated and different relationships with a student, young prostitute and fellow teacher.

Clue - (Netflix Instant). I remember seeing it in theaters originally and just re-watched it for the fun of it. It hasn’t missed a beat. F’n hysterical with great writing and great performances. If they do go through with the remake they’ve been talking about for a few years, I’m going to kick a kitten in the teeth.

Exit Humanity - (Netflix Instant). I grabbed this from Redbox a while ago but when I saw it come up on Instant, I re-watched it ASAP. Zombies in the 1870s? Hell yeah. One of the best zombie movies I’ve seen in a while, and easily one of the Top 10 of all-time in my book. Loved the characters (wouldn’t have minded a short film focusing on the second survivor guy’s backstory) and I liked the relatively-realistic way the main character learned how to interact with/fight the undead. Had a great overall feel, might’ve been a little slow-paced towards the end but it wasn’t a major problem.

Safe - (from Redbox) The trailer made me expect pretty much Transporter 4 and it ended up being a standard-issue Statham movie. He kicked some guys asses and saved a kid. Not a bad action flick, but nothing spectacular.

Tomorrow When the War Began - (Netflix Instant) Basically Red Dawn set in Australia, with a few less gunfights and a little more of the teens talking about having to act more responsible. The funniest part was how very clearly they tried to represent so many different character templates in the survivor group - the rebellious tough kid, the preacher’s daughter, the two best friends, the prissy socialite, the jock, the stoner, and the Asian-Australian dude who worked in his parent’s Chinese restaurant.

Saw Lawless the other night, bit of a yawn. Some decent parts but I expected a lot more. 6/10
