Even More Movies You've Watched This Week

A bit of a suprising film I watched was Kill List. I hadn’t read anything about it so was really only going by the name and the fact it was a slightly creepy British film. Without giving anything away - it doesn’t disappoint though I think you’ll either love it or consider it trash.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows - mixed feelings about this: Jared Harris as Moriarty was a highlight (hopefully this will lead to more movie roles for him), the plot was solid, but too much slo-mo made the story harder to follow that it should’ve; I liked the ‘Sherlock Holmes-time’ (think ‘bullet-time’ but used to show Holmes’ deductive powers in action); Noomi Rapace was wasted in her much-hyped English language debut as gypsy Sim (she spends long stretches of the movie trailing behind the men in silence only to offer up a throwaway line just to remind us that she was hired to say lines) and far too much was made of the homoerotic nature of the Holmes/ Watson relationship which dominates the movie (not helped by Holmes in drag, Mycroft calling him ‘Shirley’ and Holmes cockblocking a newly-married Watson by dumping his wife and taking the good Dr. off on an adventure with Sim playing third wheel).

Good for a night’s entertainment (just), but not a movie I’ll be revisiting any time soon.

BUT IT HAS EXPLOSIONS.

Lots and lots of explosions. Each one lovingly framed in glorious slo-mo which probably added a ploddy 20 minutes to the running time. Pyrotechnic enthusiasts will be in their element.

I just re-watched The Other Guys, I thought it sucked when I first saw it, but today I thought it was pretty funny.

Gator needs his gat back punk ass bitch!

I liked the first Sherlock Holmes. I think he pretty much got it right. I have heard they were way too playful in the sequel and the plot just didn’t flow.

It was very camp compared to the first one (not ‘Schumacher camp’ but far camper than it needed to be), comically misogynistic and the flirty banter between Holmes and Watson takes up a lot of screen time without adding to the story. I wouldn’t say it was a bad movie, but my memory of it is already starting to fade. One for home viewing.

I just watched this black movie called Trois.

It centers around a menage a trois and the consequences not foreseen by the protagonist, the dude who tries to get his wife to agree to it.

To be honest, Kenya Moore was the only reason I watched it. That woman is a fine specimen. If you don’t know who she is, just thank me now.

Don’t let the film’s 3.3 IMDB rating put you off. Shitty dialogue but who the fuck cares?

Recommended viewing before watching actual porn to get you in the mood.

The devil inside me, DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE.

Troll job in movie format…lol.

Finally just watched X Men First Class… Awesome!

Also saw 30 Minutes or Less. Funny but could have been so much better.

lol such a corny movie. They should label it as comedy not terror.

Too late.

Very disappointing. I gave it the benefit of the doubt right up until the ending, but the ending made a point of bitch slapping me for not having the sense to leave the theatre early.

oh boys, now i’m eager to see it.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Simply incredible, all though things became quite obvious early on the fine acting from all involved make it a must see

Super - The grittier, more graphic, lower budget companion of Kick Ass, and I liked this flick more. Rainn Wilson plays a great oddball (obviously) and I hate to admit it but Ellen Page gave me a big hard on especially when she wore her costume. Kevin Bacon has a cool cameo and the overall grittiness of the film made it better IMO than Kick Ass, def worth a watch

Was feeling pretty run-down, so spent the entire day sitting on my ass watching movies. Usually, I would buy the DVD on the cheap if I wanted to see a film, but I had downloaded a couple based on a “they got average reviews so I don’t wanna spend money on a DVD if it’s gonna suck” way of thinking…

The Tortured;
Pretty lame. Married couple have their son abducted and murdered, so extract revenge on the killer by kidnapping him whilst en route to prison, binding him and torturing him over the course of a number of days. Some fairly gruesome moments with a half-decent twist at the end, but overall a hollow and pointless experience. Sort of puts you in the same mindset you would have when watching ‘Dexter’, except the two lead characters were almost totally unlikeable.

Flypaper;
Better than I thought it would. Though overall pretty stupid (with about a dozen plot twists,) it was pretty fun, and did make me laugh. Two groups of criminals attempt to rob the same bank at the same time, both ending up becoming sealed in the building alongside the bank staff. Though I’ll admit that it was far from anything new comedy-wise, and even somewhat cliched, the light-hearted nature made it feel fresher and fun, and there was a great mix of characters. If it weren’t for all the cussin’, I’d say kids would enjoy it.

World’s Greatest Dad;
Quirky comedy-drama with Robin Williams. A schoolteacher (and aspiring writer) arrives home one evening after a date with a colleague to find his (asshole) son dead after participating in an act of self-strangulation while masturbating. He covers it up by making it look like a suicide, going on to ride the wave of publicity created by the event. I think I enjoyed it… Williams was great in it, but it perhaps caters to a more acquired taste, and certainly one for those with a darker sense of humour.

Blood Creek (/Town Creek);
If you’ve seen one Nazi-zombie flick you’ve pretty much seen them all. Even if you have yet to see one, I’d suggest something other than this. Though the main villain is pretty cool, overall I just couldn’t see past the bad acting and lame CGI (which ruined a potentially awesome scene involving a zombie-horse.) Avoid, unless undead Nazi’s really are your thing.

Nightmare On Elm Street (2010);
Didn’t finish watching. Shit from the outset, with an iconic villain reduced to looking more like a burns victim than the stuff of nightmares, this was a totally wasted opportunity to improve upon the original (which, let’s face it, wasn’t all that great to begin with.) Though Rooney Mara was hot in it (sleep-deprived or not.)

Carlos The Jackal - if you enjoy movies like Munich and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, you’ll probably like this. However, for a film that clocks in at over 2.5 hrs, there isn’t a lot going on. Like the Millennium Trilogy, it was also released as a miniseries, so maybe there is more to be seen in the expanded, made-for-TV version.

This is a cheap rip off of Gladiator, although the story line is not quite the same. Gruesome and bloody, but Channing Tatum is a tough sell as a Roman soldier.

I would rather go stand in line at the DMV than see this again.

havent read through this thread but I’m sure it was discussed already…

Went and saw The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo on Monday and I really liked it.

I hadn’t read the book or seen the original movie, I just knew it was about attempting to solve a crime. I was not really prepared for how graphic the movie was but it just added to the film.

The only thing I absolutely DID NOT like about the movie was the intro credits. Didnt make any sense with the movie and seemed like they were just trying to do something cool for the sake of doing something cool without adding to the movie at all.[/quote]

True Grit (new) was awesome. I refuse to watch the original simply because John Wayne was a HORRIBLE actor.

Girl With The Dragon Tattoo…great movie, although I walked out of it, as I read/am reading the books, and what the director did annoyed the piss out of me. Rooney Mara was just damned sexy. The intro was pretty awesome. It tied the elements of Lisbeth together nicely.

MI4: just a fun movie. Of course, it has Tom RUNNING, as he does in all of his movies, but damn it if I didn’t have a hard-on for Paula Patton! A thoroughly enjoyable movie.

Green Lantern: Another fun movie. Enjoyed it, and glad to add it to my collection.
