I certainly dont think the movie was unimaginative or lacking creativity. I enjoyed the beginning of the movie and started to get into it right after he banged the landlords wife and then it started to disappoint me. As far as being disappointed in the notion that we really do use all of our brain, its not the fault of the movie…it would just be awesome and incredibly interesting if it were true and thus would make this idea so much better as it may be a possibility in some distant future…

I know what you mean, but the story does explore some exciting possibilities of how we haven’t fully exploited the potential of our brains yet. It just didn’t follow the route of unlocking some long-dormant area of our minds…

When Eddie first takes NZT, he’s drawing on knowledge and facts he’s already aware of at some level, but couldn’t use (for example, he spots that book in the landlord’s wife’s bag). It’s all in his brain somewhere, he just needs the NZT to kick-start his cognitive processes. Unlocking an unused portion of the brain implies that he was a blank slate, when he wasn’t.

The human brain is still an undiscovered country in many ways. Autistic savants can do some amazing things. While they are obviously wired differently, it’s still proof of what the mind is capable of.

Well, I didn’t see it as pushing an anti-drugs message. NZT had to have a radical downside otherwise eveybody would be taking it from the start. And honestly, if I could get my hands on some NZT, I’d take the shortened life if I could achieve in a few days what would normally take years (yes, I did think about whether I’d take it-lol ). Cooper did well as both the bum writer and the brainbox.

He was a far better choice than original star LaBuff, who would have buried this.
No doubt I woulda taken it too! Ill tell you what Ill re watch it again over the weekend since you make such a strong case for it. I am definitely in the minority Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 73%
It’s definitely worth a second chance. I feel like I’ve almost got a duty to defend it, because I’ve seen it get shut down so many times because of the “only a fraction of the brain is used” line - that’s kind of selling the movie short to say that you couldn’t enjoy it after that (I don’t mean youpersonally - it’s probably the main criticism levelled at the film and I don’t think it’s that big a deal).

I appreciate that you’re willing to give it another go. There are no guarantees that you’ll like it, of course, but for a movie that I was in no rush to watch, it surpassed my expections and more.

Limitless would suck so hard if they had given the main spot to Labeuf, just like Wall Street 2 =(
Apart from his bratty persona, he was just too young. Bradley Cooper was more or less the perfect age.

the movie rocked, i can’t see any flaws on it despite the more or less rushed ending(at least it felt that way to me) and i’ll be sure to buy the book and give my verdict too.

Finally got around to watching “Hesher”, pretty touching movie and great performances all around. Also, features the music of Metallica and Motorhead throughout and home made explosives.

Has anyone watched “Red State” yet?
MOTORHEAD ? Now I GOTTA see this. And you can’t go wrong with Joseph Gordon-Levitt (exception being G.I.Joe, shame on you, Joe).

Going back to my previous comment about Cromeskull:Laid to Rest 2:

For those of you who like slasher films, this one really delivers. Compared to other recent slasher “throwbacks” like the Hatchet movies, this one does it better in my book.

The kills are designed to be imaginatively staged and each with their own “personality”, so to speak. Kinda like the Tom Savini slashers of the 80’s, where they were all designed tjo be like these little staged magic tricks.

In one scene where a girl gets it in an uninterrupted take, I wasn’t sure what it was about the kill that stood out, I thought it looked that way through some kind of CGI, but as it turned out they acheived it by using twin actresses…So cool.

The plot is nothing special but is still interesting (for a slasher film), but then again I saw this without having seen the first one. So some stuff was obviously unclear.

Oh and now I’m watching Ordinary People.

There was a lot crammed into those final minutes…

[spoilers]

DeNiro’s character seemed to have been aware of Eddie’s use of NZT far earlier than it appeared. By the end, he was manufacturing NZT for Eddie and threatened to cut his supply if Eddie didn’t listen to him as he moved into politics.

It’s possible that DeNiro’s character knew about NZT all along and didn’t want to take it himself (his main rival was on it so he knew the effects). The solution was to let Eddie keep taking it and use him as an advisor.

Oh, I forgot about “The Reef.” Has anyone seen this one? The absolute best shark film I’ve seen. I don’t think I’ll ever go in the ocean again though…lol.
Yep!
Really captured that feeling of panic, desperation, and utter helplessness.

I saw Breaking Dawn with my gal last night. Um, the best part of that movie was seeing this preview:

Not sure how good it’ll actually end up being, but at least it’s a bit of an original take on the “aliens takeover the world” idea.

Also, a heads up for Netflixers: I just noticed Limitless pop up as New on Instant. I’ll probably check it out over the weekend.

Watched Limitless again. Eddie’s former brother-in-law says the line about humans only using 20% of the brain as part of his sales pitch. His character is not particularly reliable and his knowledge of NZT is vague. It wouldn’t surprise me if the inaccuracy was deliberate.

Maxed Out- documentary on credit cards in America, very well done. For anyone struggling with debt or those that just like to be informed, worth checking out.

this looks like it could be cool or a total fail.

I remember i really wanted to see skyline when it came out and look how that ended up :stuck_out_tongue:

The movie looks like it’s got some potential.

I don’t know why but it feels to me that nowadays, trailers are just huge spoilers. Most films previews I’ve seen always give the plot out. Sometimes it’s as if I’m watching the whole film in a couple of minutes. Where’s the suspense gone?

Time Bandits - classic film from my childhood from Terry Gilliam. It’s a “kid’s movie” but with some subversive Monty Python-esque dark humor. What a great film ! They rarely make them like this anymore.

x2

50/50 = Really enjoyed this one. Joseph Gordon Levitt can do no wrong in my books as of late and the supporting cast was great, especially his young therapist. Side note, Bryce Dallas Howard = would smash on the daily

Moneyball = Worth a watch, brought me back to my younger days when I used to follow baseball a lot more attentively. I believe I stopped watching right around the time the events from the movie would have taken place, but the A’s were never a team I paid much attention to in the first place. It would have been nice if they focused a bit more on the players, but then it really would have just become every other baseball movie ever made and the focus was on the system anyways.

Lemmy = Probably one of the best music docs I’ve ever watched. I’m not a hardcore Motorhead fan, but to deny Lemmy as one of musics most interesting characters would be a huge disservice to the man. Getting a look into his personal life and what a life of music has afforded him is wonderful and his fellow musicians that they have featured pay respect to the man in a big way. The Dave Grohl material is especially worth watching.

I do sorta agree. Like this trailer for “The Darkest Hour”, once we know that the humans find a way to fight back, it’s not quite our “darkest hour”, now is it.

But on the other hand, decently-detailed trailers are why I like getting to the movies early. It’s like seeing five or six movies for the price of one… I’d rather see all the previews and miss the first five minutes of the main film, rather than missing a preview.

On topic, I finally saw Toy Story 3. Brought me right back to high school, when the first one came out. Had a few legit laughs. And the ending, geez Louise, hit an emotional/sentimental level close to the beginning of Up.

Just saw the new Conan.

Why did it get such bad reviews ? I was surprised at how satisfying it was.
The production design, costumes, the looks of all the characters was top notch, and the cast was all fine.

It’s too bad it bombed, I’d love to see a sequel !

True Believer w/Ryan Gosling

I’ve been meaning to watch this for some time now and finally got around to it the other day. Quite the film I must say, grittier than American History X in ways and far more controversial as it’s based on real events. The self hating Jew stereotype is taken to an extreme.

Gosling was phenomenal in that. I saw that a few years ago and he easily matches Norton’s performance. It was one of Gosling’s first roles after Young Hercules.

Limitless- good movie, really enjoyed it.
