Even More Movies You've Watched This Week II

Edge of Tomorrow–entertaining. Definitely some HUGE plot holes, but entertaining. Everything you could hope for in an action remake of Groundhog Day.

Also, on the point that Nur looks girly - I honestly just thought that he was like 11 or 12 years old.
Strongly agree.

My understanding was that he was a swole dude, in the X-men movie he looked like a whiny teen bitch.
The bulk is from a suit. From what I remember he found out about his power in Egypt and then after years came across alien tech and then was able to hop into bodies to live on. So his look in Ancient Egypt should not be a issue on how he will look today.
The depictions of Nur in Egypt are still of a strong as fuck dude, he’s just greyish with his mouth/facial markings. Picture is of Nur before encountering Ship.

So X3 is really this good… Everybody I talked to said it lacked action.

Might check it out this weekend.

OK so, in the movie he looks like a whiny bitch and in the comics he looks like a tranny. Lose lose if you ask me.

Well if the post-credits scene is actually of him as a teen(there’s a rite of passage he undergoes when he’s 17 and while he’s still definitely ‘fit’ in that depiction he’s no swole ass grey barbarian), then it could just be that he’s small because he’s a young boy still.

Really I doubt it’ll matter much though, the next movie is straight up called Apocalypse, so his life as ‘En Sabah Nur’ is likely to be a footnote/lead-up story to the meat of the movie, where he’ll be a giant mutant in a blue suit.

I saw The Machine yesterday. British sci-fi movie, thought it was entertaining enough.

Saw that one same day as you it looks like!

Pretty good, not great, but worth the time.
I liked it more than Transcendence. I’m a sucker for movies that blur the line between horror and sci-fi. Caity Lotz played her dual role very well.

Caught 2 movies with similar themes:

The Road

It’s not a disaster movie, but takes place well after the disaster. It explores humanity and survival and is really just a great movie. There’s maybe 1 or 2 cliches, if you’re into these types of stories, but other than that, no problems… I actually wanted to watch it again the next day.

The Divide

Another post-apocalyptic flick, but this one takes place immediately after the disaster. Folks locked up in a fallout shelter without much hope. It’s another exploration of humanity and it’s capabilities in times of scarcity. It made me feel pretty dirty and kind of guilty after. My only criticism is that they could have varied up the characters a bit more… but I guess looking at how relationships change is part of the movie. It’s a good flick, nonetheless, it’s lower budget, but that doesn’t really effect anything. Don’t see it with your girl, you will not be getting laid that night.

Watched Edge of Tomorrow yesterday.

Solid sci-fi action film. Had the entire theater laughing out loud at numerous points as well.

“Summit”
Documentary about 11 climbers who died on K3 in one day.

What was that movie you guys were talking about a few months ago? The Raid or something like that? The crazy martial arts movie? I skimmed the thread (very lazy skim) but couldn’t find it. Would like to check it out

There’s two. The first one is called “Raid:Redemption”. The second one is “The Raid 2”.

I had watched “The Road” a while ago after seeing it recommended here I think. Good flick.

I saw you mention this (the Divide) movie but decided to wait until after I watched it to read your quick little write-up. You are spot on with everything you said. Some parts definitely made me uncomfortable. I agree with some characters needing a little change up and that the acting could use a little improvement in the beginning but by the end of it you are pretty well deep into the madness. Good albeit disturbing movie.

I watched Lone Survivor recently, if you don’t feel a surge of T-juice flowing in your nuts after watching it, seek medical treatment.

Glad to hear Edge of Tomorrow had a good review, I am convinced that Tom Cruise has maintained his skill as an actor while getting older.

Yesterday, I was in Oceanside and drove by the house used in Top Gun, where Cruise dines and bangs Kelly McGillis. Despite new construction surrounding the house, they maintained it as a shrine to the Top Gun movie. It was a nice homage to an iconic movie at a time where movies didn’t suck as much.

The Road was a good movie, but it is so fucking depressing its painful. I sure as shit wouldn’t watch it again. Once was enough.

Yeah, that was a tough movie to watch. Well made

You mean when movies didn’t suck as much as Top Gun.

It’s funny that you say that about Tom Cruise- yahoo seems to disagree with you: 5 Ways Tom Cruise Can Reclaim His Title as Hollywood's Top Gun

Continued Spoilers…

I got the impression it was a young Apocalypse when he was just figuring out his powers.

The thing that ran through my mind was that I didn’t know his telekinesis was powerful enough to do what he was doing.

It’s more believable that it was after he was altered by the celestials, but not when he was young.

I suppose they just picked some task to show who it was and why the Egyptians were worshipping him.

If they do the next one well, it will be epic. He is one of the baddest villains in the XMen/Marvel comics.

What the fuck?
