Even Breathing Feels All Right

Sorry about the job angst. You know you can always just view it as a job and find ways to fulfill yourself outside of your work–through volunteer work and the like. But, it sounds like you have a plan–so very good!

Training looks good too!

Thanks Nadia. I think things are looking up.

Snap, I don’t think I’m ready. I will be glad to come and cheer you on, hold the camera, and report back the dirt for this community.

Be careful on the presses if something hurts. Injuries suck so much that I’m getting way more conservative as time goes by.

Two days in bed was worth it if you came up with a workable plan. Nicely done!

I never feel like I’m ready. I’m already lamenting that I don’t have another month in this training cycle.

Don’t worry about numbers for your first meet. I opened with very low numbers at my first meet.

dog, if you were satisfied with the quality of my video last time, I am the Official Soldog and Kpsnap Camera Crew ™

Snapper, what numbers did you put up your first time? And you are willing to practice signals with me one day this week??

my first meet was lame too! go for it if you feel even remotely ready–just get it out of the way!—> and over with i say if you have even a slight urge to compete in the future…if not, that’s cool too:)

oh! ans snap will take care of you:) all the Denver peeps will!

I can meet you and focus on you from 9:30-11 am on Friday. Does that work for you? I have to do my own training at 11 am and then head out of town for the weekend.

Let’s see. My first meet. I opened with a bodyweight squat (110 lb.), a 93.5 lb. bench, and a 1.5x bodyweight DL. I was very conservative.

Lemme know about Friday.

2/9/11
Squat 3x5 95 (1RM 130) < continuing with solid form. I can feel every muscle of my legs and core working. This will be a squat breakthrough year.

Bench Press 1x5 1x4 3x3 85 (1 RM 105) Solid.

Dumbbell row 2x5 45s

Inverted bw rows 1x10

Treadmill 0.5 miles. < I have to commit to some kind of (fucking) cardio for my general health and ease.

I think all y’all should eat your hearts out that I’m meeting snapper Friday for some meet pointers.

Happy lifting!

I def am!
nice work on deads

2/10/11
Treadmill 0.5 miles. < fucking cardio. Ok, it wasn’t that bad. Oh yeah, and 5 chinups. bw 118 with clothes.

A squat breakthrough year sounds like a beautiful thing.

Well, this morning I met with the lovelyandtalented snapper. Her gym is not nearly the hole in the wall she describes and it’s dirt-cheap. She went over commands and customs. I appreciated it very much! She told me I should be working some heavy singles and triples coming up to the meet.

So, I went back to my gym and did squats, bench, dead and had my coworker do commands.

It looked like this:
Squat: 45 55 65 75 85 95 105 115 120(not deep enough) 120(fail) 120(not deep enough) 120 solid!
Ok, so I previously thought I had a 130 squat, but I was totally strict with depth on these so I guess I’ll call that my 1RM. I don’t think anyone else is going down in 1 RM, but oh well… I should also mention I’m stepping up onto an aerobic step for the squat otherwise the rails limit my depth. Someone stole the plywood boards I was using at Kimba’s suggestion. I will get another set soon.

Bench: 45 55 65 75 85 95 100 100
The second one was especially wobbly and I used the coworker to unrack me. He didn’t I was going to make it so I said don’t fucking touch it I think I should get 2.5 extra pounds for cursing while pushing it. That pause at the bottom is a bitch.

Deadlift: 95 115 185 185
The first 185 my hips came up and it was all wrong. The second one my form should have been better but it was a slow grind. I was kind of disappointed it felt so heavy, but maybe that’s ok after bench and squat.

So I guess I’ll register for the meet.

(I forgot I finished with 0.5 miles of obligatory cardio)

I’m so jealous of the spider-snapper meet up. Ah well. A meet! That’s wonderful! I’ll live vicariously through you, but you can squat and bench more than I can.

ahhhh sooooo another one slips into the competition pit, verrrry gooood

looking forward to being in the meet with you and snapper!

congrats on deciding to do it! i’ll be cheering you on

exciting stuff!!!

Thanks Nadia, I’m feeling really good about it.
Kimba, I feel pretty lucky to be in the elite colorado company.
Mim and Alexus, thanks! I intend to dominate the middle-aged ladies division. Maybe I’ll get a medal. Or a certificate. Or a testimonial.

Dog, I’ll see you there.

Squat singles today.
overhead 3xsteel bar
bsquat 1x1 45 55 65 75 85 95 105 105 105 105 105
Chinups 118 (bw) 128 138 148 130 130 130

happy lifting

Oh and I forgot that during Friday’s deadlifts, I felt a twang in my lower back to the left of center (muscle) and I was all “crap i actually just injured myself for real for the first time in a long time, stupidstupid” and that evening it felt really weird then the next day… I felt fine. What’s up with that?
Crazy lucky i’d say.

Nice job with the singles. What is your purpose in training singles? For the meet?

You are indeed lucky to have no ill effects from the muscle twang. I rarely get so lucky.
