PP, I love seeing the variation. I find body shapes and sizes and performance just fascinating and beautiful.
Have you ever seen this poster?

So what are your plans for a program if you’re flushing 5/3/1 down the crapper?
Are you doing the July meet?
snap, there is no doubt I’m doing the July meet. Advice for where to buy a singlet is appreciated.
As for the program, I think I will still go with one major lift per day, but emphasize accessory work much more than 5/3/1 calls for. I’m not sure yet.
I love those posters, too. But then I realized that they are a bit deceptive because they are compiled and the photographer isn’t a constant distance away from the person. So the ‘bigger’ / ‘smaller’ visual comparison is misleading. And of course they picked the superheavyweight Oly Lifter…
They are cool, though. I love it how there are such a variety of fit bodies, too.
just catching up…
you, K, Kim and pPuff could all long lost 4th cousins, twice removed and all that ![]()
Lookin great and strong work. I concur with the glute activation…not only will it do your DL good, but also your booty ![]()

You can just wear my black one again. I only wear a singlet for one lift (bench) and can wear my blue one.
If you don’t mind. I don’t want to keep assuming, but I would appreciate it.
Alexus, you’re right about the manipulation of size, but I was really attracted to this poster because of Cheryl forgot her last name. She was pretty hyped going into the Olympics and I was kind of fascinated with her. Unfortunately she didn’t do all that well.
Betty, will do! I suspect my glutes are getting really lazy since I’m not training much taekwondo. Wake up!

WHERE to buy a singlet. Jesus, I need to pay attention when I write these things.

Thanks Dog, honestly I’m feeling a little discouraged because after three cycles of 5/3/1 I tested all my maxes this week and they did not budge.
I will hit those face pulls and glute activation and see what happens. I need to make a decision about this program now.[/quote]
That’s really weird. 5-3-1 definitely worked within three cycles for me. I was reping my previous goal weight after that amount of time. However, I wasn’t really doing much cardio and was also focussing on eating healthy, but enough calories so I was supposedly in a surplus every day (but you know, it’s kind of hard to determine that for sure without really over shooting it. I had an online estimator telling me 2400 cals per day would do it, so I was eating everywhere between that and 3000 cals).

Absolutely. I have no problem with sharing. I can meet you at the gym sometime to give it to you. It was good luck for you last time. I’m superstitious about such things. Won’t wear the same socks if I miss a DL or T-shirt if I miss a squat/DL while wearing it. Can’t do that with my gear though. I’m already nervous about my opening squat since I bungled it at my last meet. Actually, I bungled the third too. Egads.
Hey Arachne,
Mike Robertson just posted an article with a strength program template
It is pretty similar to the template he used for me and other clients I know. It isn’t a meet prep template, but I think it would help with addressing your weaknesses, in order to bring up your lifts. I’ve also done Max Strength by Eric Cressey a long time ago. It was also very good. I’ve heard that his Show and Go Program is even better, if you can invest some cash.
Good luck in making your decision.
yeah for July meet! ![]()
ironcross, I know many people are successful on this program and I really don’t know what I could be doing wrong. This is my second attempt at 531 and I think I have been quite rigorous about it. I might criticize myself for not trying for the extra rep over minimum in the second cycle, and I did sometime skimp on the accessories, but according to Wendler those are not the meat of it anyway.
snap, I know good athletes are superstitious but imho you are very strong and you will do great in your next meet no matter which socks you are wearing! It seemed like the suit was what threw you last time. You had not had a chance to bring it all together in a meet situation. Thank you again for your generosity!
smart, I have been eyeing that very program all week! I like the floating target based on how you feel and the sufficient quantity of relevant assistance work. I was 90% sure I was going to try it starting today and here you are suggesting it. I call that a sign.

Definitely a sign! Feel free to post vids of assistance work, if you are unsure that you’re getting the most out of them. When Molly (my workout partner) and I go up to IFAST, Mike helps us with form and good ways to cue each other.
Will do. I started today. I’m excited!
Squat 1x5 45, 65, 85, 95. (rpe 8) I’m pretty sure I know when I have one more rep left but not two. I’ll have to learn that.
Good mornings 3x8 45, 55, 55 < even with such a low weight, this make me pant, because I am unaccustomed to them. I imagine they will get much easier.
Ball leg curls 3x8 < I don’t have a GHR machine and I have been unable to come up with a handmade version. Suggestions appreciated. Meanwhile I supplemented with pull throughs
Cable pull throughs 8x 90, 100, 110
Lunges 3x8 bar
Ab wheel 3x8
I found that article/program really interesting and am glad that you’re going to be following it. Looking forward to seeing how it works for you!
That program does look really fun!
I think N8tive was/is doing it too…
