Yup, I’ve tried the hook grip, but only with really light DLs. I use a mixed grip and can’t imagine DLing any other way.

Wednesday I did 6 AM kickboxing. I felt pretty good last night and did not have numbness in my hands but today it’s bad (numb fingers and ass). I forgot about feeling like this six months ago, and realizing I needed to get back to taekwondo. I feel crabby, hideous, and old.
The only thing not making me suicidal is that at least I went back to class once, and if I go again tomorrow morning I truly believe things will get better. I have to believe the hard training was what kept all this fucking decrepitude at bay, and apparently weight-training is not sufficient alone. Breathing does not feel all right, whatsoever. I’m supposed to be a superhero. Fuck.

So sorry you’re feeling low. I hate that. I really hate that. I think that’s a HUGE reason I am so obsessed with this sport. Heavy lifting really staves off depression for me. The endorphine rush, I guess. But it sounds like you need some supplemental exercise. If it’s taekwondo, then so be it.
What’s up with the numbness? That doesn’t sound so good . . . Have you had it diagnosed?
Chin up Spidey. I agree, it’s all about finding the right endorphin fix. I’ve joked about how when I stopped running, there should have been an endorphin patch! You’ll be back to feeling your old self soon.

This is the spider reporting in post-6 AM kickboxing and squat day. Feeling a bit better today. Thank you soo much for your support yesterday.
Ass significantly less numb, fingers still a little numb. Snap, I have not had a doctor look at this since it went away some months ago. I think it’s neuropathy, and I think sustained aerobic exercise several days a week is the key but I’ll monitor the situation.
5/3/1 squat day, cycle 2, week 3. Training max 117, actual max 121 = 107% bw
warmed up with 2 sets of the bar and 1 set of 65
Working 1x5 85, 1x3 100, 1x2 110 <I’m continuing to be very happy with my form and progress on these.

Next is supposed to be a deload week, but since I slacked off this week, I’m thinking about going right into cycle 3 next week. I’ve also decided to do one more cycle of 5/3/1 because I’m nearing my real maxes and I’d like to see if I can exceed them next month.

Veggie and Nadia, I feel so stable and solid on those squats and I know I’m making depth. Six months ago my form was a mess, so I’m really proud, though I haven’t increased the weight yet.

I switched it around to start the week with deadlifts.

Warmup: bar, 95, 115
Working 5x130, 5x150 5x170 < I took notes and I use a hook grip until 150. 170 at five reps calculates to my actual 1 rm of 200, so I’d say this is solid for me.

how did you calculate your 1rm with the 170?
