So yeah, you have no proof that Spanish press was being racist…because that never happened. They certainly didn’t defend the pack of people who allegdely were racist to Balotelli, because that started from the English press (not even the Italian one).
I’m not in Spain, but I still read the newspapers daily. Again, the press was not being racist at all.
The game was entertaining up to the point that Motta went out and Italy was out of subs. They were creating chances early in the second half and they already showed they can score against Spain so a comeback would not have been out of the question. Difficult? Obviously, but maybe Italy gets a goal and we have some drama vs the anti-climax we ended up with.
The scoreline was deceiving because up to the point of going down to 10 men Italy, though behind, was not being played off the pitch. It was a difficult task to begin with but Prandelli made some errors by playing players who were not fit. Chiellini should not have played and Cassano was not 100% match fit to begin the tourney and it finally caught up with him. They also abandoned the original formation they used against Spain.
I’m not saying they would have won but at least their chances of doing so would have been better. There is a reason why you bring extra players and if you bring them then that should mean they are capable of performing if needed.
Also, Italy could have played differently to really try and win but they wanted to stick with their new attacking style of play because to go into a defensive shell would be a step back and be like saying that they are wrong to want to play that way. You could see how the fulbacks were coming forward and the chances they had to score but once you have to make subs based on injuries you can’t make subs to adjust tactically. I think that it was the right call at this point to live or die by their chosen style of play because it’s the future for the team.
Then going down to 10 men is basically suicide at this level when being down 2 goals. If anything, this Euro showed that Spain is still the best but the gap is not as wide as the final score would suggest. Barca have been figured out and in two years we’ll see how much better other teams cope with Spain. It will be hard for any team from Europe to win in Brazil so Germany, Italy and Spain might have to wait another 6 years for a world cup trophy.

It happened. Certainly what I read from the Spanish press regarding Balotelli is different from what you read. Then again we have different perception of what is said. And of course you’ll back your country’s press. They are doing nothing wrong.
Oh and bringing the English press into this is ridiculous. So Spain was wrong to be fined for the fans behaviour. It’s all England’s press fault of course. No fans was monkey chanting during the game. Riiiight.
