Is there any chance you can post a video of your squat and DL? I’m very curious to see what they look like because it is quite rare for a raw lifter to squat more than they pull, especially 80 lbs more.

Oh, and 375 lbs is a damn good squat.

yea sure I can. It probably wont be tomorrow but ill get it up there as soon as I can. And I have no idea why my DL is behind my squat. I’ve wondered that too

Without seeing a video, there are generally four scenarios where the squat is higher then DL:

  1. The squat is wrapped and the lifter is a naturally gifted squatter with a high deadlift as well - usually only seen in meets (Malanichev springs to mind who squatted 1067 lbs and pulled around 900 lbs at Big Dogs, or Odell Manuel who squatted around 950 lbs and pulled just over 900 lbs at Pro Raw Seven);
  2. The lifter has horrible leverages for the deadlift but decent or good leverages for the squat - in other words their arms are short AF with longer legs and/or torso, so also often a good bencher. One guy who trains at Elite here fits this description with a 680+ lbs squat, 400+ lbs bench but just 600 lbs pull;
  3. Equipped lifting, especially multiply, which doesn’t apply here; and
  4. The squat is high - not necessarily super high, but high enough to make a significant difference in how much weight can be moved.

Either way, tag me when you post the video. I’m curious.

@MarkKO here’s a link to my YouTube channel. I haven’t put up my squat video just my deadlift. My hip wasn’t feeling it today. And my grip wasn’t keeping up today so I had to shave off 20 pounds so this deadlift is at 275, to keep form good. So what do you think?

I’ll get a squat video in soon though. Maybe tommorow or sometime Friday.

That looks pretty good. I’d drop your hips a little lower to get more leg drive, move your feet in a few inches and pull more explosively (it looks so controlled I’m guessing you’re slowing yourself down a little) but those are fairly minor tweaks.

Yea I try to focus on slow controlled movements. Going too fast screws up all of my upper and lower back, and throws my balance completely off. And thanks for the tweaks, I knew there was something I could use fixing up a bit. As far as explosiveness goes I’ll try to drive more upwards. When I first hit a new heavy weight is seems like I can’t go fast no matter how much I want to.

This most probably means you’re lacking tightness.

Slow and controlled is good for BB training, but sub optimal for strength. You’d probably do really, really well working on explosiveness for your main lifts and leaving the tempo work for assistance.

Yea that sounds doable I’m up for progressing in new ways. So at the bottom drive up through the legs, and I’m guessing once I get to that point where the back takes over then explode up? Or right as I get ready to push through my legs?

Push hard off the floor and pull back rather than up. Don’t worry about when to accelerate, just move as fast as you can from the start.

Okay I can follow that

All of what Markko said and add chalk. That bar looks pretty slippery.

I know you like bbing but I think you are a powerlifter. I havent seen a lot of people make 275 move like that.

In for more progress!!!

@FlatsFarmer Its my second favorite shirt. If I ever load another video ill make sure to have my DBZ shirt on. That’s my all time fav shirt lol

@BOTSLAYER yea I had to keep wiping my hands off the whole time. If I may ask, where can I buy chalk at? Academy? And I take it as a great honor to be considered a powerlifter. I was leaning more towards it anyways, plus I find it a lot more simple than BBing, but BBing has its spot in my training no doubt. And Thank you for the support!! :slight_smile:

Powerlifting training: working up to a heavy set on the main lift followed by BB training for assistance

I never called it that surprisingly. Although that’s what I was doing this whole time lol

It has also been called “Powerbuilding” but truthfully that is just a rebranding of what powerlifters have been doing for years.

I think most sports stores would sell it. If you are near a rock climbing gym or store that carries rock climbing equipment. If all else fails bb dot com.

Alright guys here you go. I do realize the angling makes me look like I’m half repping my ass off, But I couldnt quite get to full parallel, and my hip wouldn’t cooperate with me for nothing. Sorry you guys can’t see the plates, but if you look up in corner on the right you can see the plates (315). Couldn’t squat my PR today because everything felt so damn heavy.

Today was sloppy, and rushed, and I waited to do squats until the very last minute and was tired (like a dumbass).

But I didn’t wanna leave you guys hanging.
