English Paper Topic?

For English I need to write a perspective essay, while referring back to 3 readings we read in class. Possible topics are gun control, body image and society… They are all taken though, does anyone have any ideas what to write about? I would like to write about something with bodybuilding and working out because I know the most about this kind of stuff.

Body image and bodybuilding are naturally related. Just write an essay examining your personal dealings with body image and the relation it has to working out. Why do you have such a strong desire to improve your body? What are your motivations? What do you struggle with vis-a-vis body image? Do you think there will ever be a point when you are satisfied with your body? Why or why not? etc, etc.

I gave my final speech in a public speaking class about why steroids should be legal. I’d say it was pretty successful in changing people’s perspective about steroids.

You could even mention steroids and body image in it, too.

Go to the Univ. Library and find the books your professor has written…read them…find what he/she is interested in…pay attention to how he/she writes…write an essay on something they’re interested in using the style they write…

What are YOU interested in? It would be much easier to write your paper on a topic that you are already familiar with. Plus, the odds are pretty good that you will already have a significant amount of knowledge on the topic.

Definitely bodybuilding and dieting related to body image… the possibilities are pretty endless, I think.

If it’s possible to have more than one student do the same topic then do the body image one. Chances are your two papers will be drastically different anyway.

If you have to resort to consult a collective crowd of strangers to help you find a topic, maybe you should consider dropping the class.

Take the body image and society thing and try to put a positive spin on it. Maybe these fat bastards should feel bad about themselves. Would probably be hard to find enough references though.

Important things when picking your topic.

1- Plenty of available references. Don’t pick any obscure issues or events.

2- You know enough about the subject to know what point you want to make from the beginning. You don’t want to waste a few weeks trying to learn enough about the subject to even form an opinion.

At the same time,
3- The subject should be foriegn enough to you that you are actually interested in finding out more about it. It gets really boring re-reading books you already read once to find the material to put together your paper.
