Solar flares, weather, geophysics…
All these things have run in cycles since the dawn of time, or at least since history has been recorded. My only real concerns are asteroids and nuclear war. Anything short of the sun im/exploding unexpectedly and we’re good until 328something.
Not really. When it comes to solar flares, it isn’t that they exist. It is about whether they are aimed directly at us and of what intensity. Researchers have recently discovered that in the next two years or so, we will be in direct line of a very large flare. Our atmosphere protects us from “indirect” assault.
Atheism is merely a stance that that the specific claims made by religions that a god exists are false. If you reject all super natural claims but believe a god exists you are still an atheist.
The above is incorrect. An atheist does not believe in any deities, hence he does not believe in any “God”.

It is still a scary thought…and I feel that real science is being buried by nonsense like the op is about.
Yes, there are crazy people out there.
That doesn’t mean that ancient people were completely wrong in their prediction because all they studied was the sun.
Honestly, it shocked me to learn this was happening because it isn’t being discussed anywhere aside from National Geographic documentaries.
From what I understand, its our satellites (read: military superiority) and 4g cell phones that would bear the brunt of an anomalous solar flare.
I’m not aware of any legit concern to anything within our planet’s magnetic field.
The way it was explained by experts in that field, it isn’t just cell phones. A flare the size of the one predicted would cut off ALL electrical appliances across the globe…including hospitals, your car, any planes in the sky etc. They have actually started planning procedures with airlines hoping they can predict it enough to get people out of the sky.
I will try to find the name of the doc I watched but it is on Netflix…and frankly, all of their universe stuff is worth looking at.
This is a far cry from “doomsday” or end of the world, don’t ya think? If you didn’t inject the solar flare subject into the thread in the same vein as “end of world”, then doesn’t solar flare and it’s repercussions deserve its own thread?

Im a Christian but I ahve to admit that the Rapture would be the lamest way for the world to end. Anything not involving a war of some sort, monkeys, zombies, marauding bikers,or self aware killbots then I dont want to be involved with it.

In the Mormon rapture, Zombie Raptors from Outerspace come and destroy the unbelievers. I heard Brigham Young said it once…

Wow and here I am believing in a normal rapture and being a Southern Baptist.

The end of the world could still be a crazy fucking war. I mean, in theory the rapture should take all of the faithful and just souls to heaven, leaving those without faith and sinners on earth with the certainty of doom looming. Who’s to say some of those people aren’t in a position to say fuck it and launch a nuke or 500.

Eh… too tired. I’m off to bed. Tomorrow I’m tuning into FamilyRadio just to listen to the sound of Harold Camping munching on a nice juicy crow, followed by a dessert slice of humble pie.

Here I am being Catholic and thinking the entire rapture idea is retarded.

Do Catholics even talk about the End of Days? My Sunday school teacher always tried to scare us about it and I really hated it. The idea is that you MUST believe or your going to hell,it doesn’t even matter if you were a good person or anything. You can participate in the Holocaust but so long as your a Christian your going to be okay but if you were a fireman and you didnt even bother goinh to church then your fucked. I thought it was a pretty shitty way to look at things.
