The good thing about having it be May 21st is that we don’t have to wait so long for them to be shown to be wrong.
The people that go on about 2012? We have to listen to that crap for another year and some.

I’d worry more about the US losing it’s status as the world’s reserve currency. The fall out from that and the inevitable collapse of the dollar would devastate things almost as much as a solar flare induced EMP (and with a large EMP, you would lose power for more than “just a day”). There are MANY potential disasters that could put our society or a particular region in chaos.
Personally, I think it is prudent to stock up on food and other necessities and HAVE A PLAN in the event that the shit hits the fan. I have several friends who have homesteads in rural Virginia who are completely self sufficient. I hooked up solar panels, batteries, generators and other redundant power supply systems for them. They have YEARS of food, water purifiers, guns and thousand of rounds of ammunition (some of which is cached secretly on their property). They have HAM radios and GIGS of reference material on hard drives stored inside insulated Faraday cages.
I also have friends who eat out for just about EVERY single meal and would literally STARVE in less than a week if our food supply were interrupted. I guess I fall somewhere in the middle.
Agreed on the self sufficiency. Shit can happen at any time, and most people won’t be at all prepared.

Yeah but you know they’ll come up with something new after 2012. I always see this desire for the end of the world as a fear of being insignificant, and if the world goes on without us when we die then that must mean we were insignificant. Such silliness.

I think it is “possible”. I also think that even if it did happen, how would that really change your life?
If you would actually change the path you are on…then you should have already anyway.
Exactly, so no point in worrying.
And thanks for helping with my last post. I wasn’t aware of the direct line of fire thing.
It is still a scary thought…and I feel that real science is being buried by nonsense like the op is about.
Yes, there are crazy people out there.
That doesn’t mean that ancient people were completely wrong in their prediction because all they studied was the sun.
Honestly, it shocked me to learn this was happening because it isn’t being discussed anywhere aside from National Geographic documentaries.
People who are interested in this stuff are boring, thats us btw.
I vaguely remember a docu talking about the earth switching polarities or somesuch and how that may or may not change earth completely in ways we can only speculate. They also thought that it might have happened in the past many times.
Makes for some amazing aurora borealis.

True - its boring for most and who wants to think about death. If people took it serious they whould have to change ie prepare (if you could) and most people would rather be sheepol.
It would mean I dont have to take my exam on May 24th. Still reading though… If I die, I couldnt do much about it, if I live, my exam will be far less painful.
It would be interesting to see one of these religious lunitics on May 22nd ![]()
I think it would be more interesting for his cult to turn on him and get really angry.
Well at least we will get to see the new Pirates of the Caribbean before the world ends.
Someone tell me if they saw this on TV because i forgot about most of it…
Anyway, I remember seeing this TV show following a cult that believed the world was gonna end on a specific day. It was led by some man who was definitely sleeping with every girl in the cult (pretty smart huh?). This guy led his entire cult up to the top of a mountain to wait for the end of the world (this was all captured on video).
So the time passes when the world is supposed to end and instead of being like “WTF?,” they all start celebrating and walk back down the mountain… Unfuckingbelievable.
If the world does come to an end while im still alive, i hope its some kind of virus that turns people into zombies.
Id be ready for that shit.

Isn’t one of the tenets in Christianity the belief a judgement day is coming?
Don’t you have to believe in a Judgement Day (maybe not May 21 2011) to call yourself a Christian?
There are different interpretations of what this means, just like the 6 days of creation. Fundamentalists believe it was actually 6 human days, whereas, most take it to mean a much longer time period (1 God day > 1 human day). It is not unreasonable to assume that the Judgment Day will be the same sort of thing, i.e. a gradual destruction of the earth and humanity. My own judgment day is more important.
Btw, the earth was supposed to have ended multiple times in just my 42 years of life. In NYC, they are preaching a global earthquake will hit on 5/21, whatever that would entail, although I’m not sure it’s even possible, given what little I know about earthquakes.

Haha zombie apocalypse ![]()
But I dunno if the solar flare being mentiond would be strong enough to intensify the polar ice cap melting? This would be a shit storm if our satelites and electricty got wiped out and we had flooding…

Ya the guys at work and I were talking about how civil service providers(fire fighters, EMT, Law Enforcement) are going to have one hell of a month when December '12 roles around. We thought the Y2K was bad, wait till this shit hits the fan.

Yeah me too. It would be like ‘Dawn of the Dead’. We could barricade ourselves in a shopping mall and shoot zombies from the roof. Hopefully Tom Savini won’t show up with some bikies and cause trouble though.

So these people are regularly in downtown Toronto telling everyone the world is going to end. I also have read there are end of the world billboards popping up all over the US.
How many people here believe a Judgement Day is in fact coming? How many think it’s May 21 2011?
How much presence has this ad campaign had in your community?
What are your plans for may 21 2011?

That’s what I’m told. I’ve only been here a short while and I’m not a believer so I’m not too familiar with it.

Where does the bible guarantee the precise date of judgement day?
And if it doesn’t happen will the people who put up that poster renounce their religion?
The Bible does not specify. However this zealot (Harold Camping) has taken it upon himself to decipher the numeric elements of scripture and determined that May 21, 2011 is the date of judgement.
He was wrong in '94.
EDIT: Forgot pic… see next post.
Yes, but the important question is who is the anti-Christ? Obama? The Pope? Tom Cruise?

I’m sorry, but in that event someone, at some point, is gonna show up and cause trouble; that being the case I’d rather it was Tom Savini than any old famous special effects dude. Motherfuck is cool. =D
