Just FYI,
I have a buddy (single early twenties) who lives in Manhattan who makes close if not over 90k but at the end of the month, he has VERY little left. His co-worker who essentially has the same job in Texas somewhere (Houston, I think) gets paid ~65k and still have a lot to save at the end.
New York is very expensive but could be very fun for young people. Choose wisely.

We all know Prof X has never held back on giving his opinion and yes most of the time it comes across blunt. But you really got to take a step back and ask:
- Is this right for me?
- Do I have a plan B if I don’t make it?
- What will I work as?
- How much do I expect to save every month?
- Where do I see myself in a year from now? 3 years?
- When will I know that I’ve been successful in this move? What needs to happen for me to feel this way?
We don’t doubt your conviction to go ahead with the move, we do doubt (strongly I might add) your planning and execution to make this move successful.
Why New York? If it’s your dream, why is it your dream? What made it your dream? Unless you can answer honestly development questions like this you should stay put.

Reassess, and save up a shitload more money before you decide to move to NYC. You simply can’t afford it. $1,500 will last you all of 15 minutes here. (I’m only slightly exaggerating.) Even if you get a roommate and share a shoebox-sized apartment, you’re going to be paying at LEAST $1,000 just for your half of the rent. Plus, unless you have a roommate who was able to get the place themselves and put the lease in their name, there’s no way you’ll ever get approved for an apartment. Landlords run a credit check, need to know what your income is (currently zero), and require that you to be able to show that you have anywhere from 60 to 80 times the monthly rent in the bank before they’ll rent you a place.
