Empire State of Mind

A guy I know did this after college. He found a job delivering pizzas on a bike, then a job with a scaffolding company. He, however, is bar none, the hardest working mother-fucker I have ever met.

You, OP, don’t strike me as the single minded, no excuses type.

According to this the cost of living in Manhattan by average is $50,000 dollars. (or potentially more)[/quote]

Thanks. Taking into account what I spend over a one month period is exactly what I should/and will be doing.

This is retarded. No, I mean REALLY refucktarded.

I didn’t know they still made people like this. This shit sounds like those urban legend warnings about kids who move out to New York or Hollywood and end up living on the streets selling sex for food stamps.

Take notes from the guy in your avatar, Strength…you will need to know those facial movements…as well as have good lungs. I’m talking power to suck the thickest milk shake through the thinnest straw type lungs.

OP you should see the classic movie with Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman called MIDNITE COWBOY it may prove prophetic if you move to NYC with no real safety net.

There are gay people in New york?

=my reaction to this thread.

They’re all just method actors prepping for their roles in “Rent” on Broadway.

Talk about a movie that stands the test of time!

8.4 Million New Yorkers Suddenly Realize New York City A Horrible Place To Live
‘We’re Getting The Hell Out Of This Sewer,’ Entire Populace Reports
SEPTEMBER 2, 2010 | ISSUE 46.35

NEW YORK - At 4:32 p.m. Tuesday, every single resident of New York City decided to evacuate the famed metropolis, having realized it was nothing more than a massive, trash-ridden hellhole that slowly sucks the life out of every one of its inhabitants.

With audible murmurs of “This is no way to live,” “What the hell am I doing here? I hate it here,” and “Fuck this place. Fuck this horrible place,” all 8.4 million citizens in each of the five boroughs packed up their belongings and told reporters they would rather blow their brains out with a shotgun than spend another waking moment in this festering cesspool of filth and scum and sadness.

By 5:15 p.m. there was gridlock traffic on the outbound sides of the Holland and Lincoln tunnels, and the area’s three major airports were flooded with New Yorkers, all of whom said they wanted to go anyplace where the pressure of 20 million tons of concrete wasn’t constantly suffocating them.

“I always had this perverted sense of pride because I was managing to scrape by here,” said Brooklyn resident Andrew McQuade, who, after watching two subway rats gnawing on a third bloody rat carcass, finally determined that New York City was a giant sprawling cancer. “Well, fuck that. I don’t need to pay $2,000 a month to share a doghouse-sized apartment with some random Craigslist dipshit to prove my worth. I want to live like a goddamn human being.”

According to residents, the mass exodus was triggered by a number of normal, everyday New York City events. For Erin Caldwell of Manhattan, an endlessly honking car horn sent her over the edge, causing her to go into a blind rage and scream “shut up!” at the vehicle as loud as she could until her voice went hoarse; for Danny Tremba of Queens it was being cursed at for walking too slow; and for Paul Ogden, also of Queens, it was his overreaction to somebody walking too slow.

Other incidents that prompted citizens to pick up and leave included the sight of garbage bags stacked 5 feet high on the sidewalk; the realization that being alone among millions of anonymous people is actually quite horrifying; a blaring siren that droned on and fucking on; muddy, refuse-filled puddles that have inexplicably not dried in three years; the thought of growing into a person whose meanness and cynicism is cloaked in a kind of holier-than-thou brand of sarcasm that the rest of the world finds nauseating; and all the goddamn people.

In addition, 3 million New Yorkers reportedly left the city because they realized the phrase “Only in New York” is actually just a defense mechanism used to convince themselves that seeing a naked man take a shit on a park bench is somehow endearing, or part of some shared cultural experience.

^ out of curiosity, what city do you live in?

Im asking because it seems as if the posts you have made in the this thread is about the negative aspects of the NYC. Espescially, quoting an article from a Tounge in Cheek newssource like the Onion. Now I have stated that I am done in NYC, and I am tired of it…I will no doubt miss many aspects of NYC.

For the record I have seen a lot shit living in NY, good and bad…but never a naked man taking a shit on a park bench. Now I did see a woman taking a shit on a guy who was sitting on a park bench.

“Only in New York.”

It IS tongue in cheek, Matty, and The Onion is known to presumably everyone on the internet for its satirical nature. I have lived there and would live there again (with enough money). I love the city and consider it the capital of the world. But there are some issues. I thought the article amusing and I certainly was able to relate to parts of it.

I thought this was funny: “for Danny Tremba of Queens it was being cursed at for walking too slow; and for Paul Ogden, also of Queens, it was his overreaction to somebody walking too slow.” It reminded me of the recent-ish discussion about knocking another pedestrian down. Wasn’t that you? (I was on your side, btw, though I never posted in that thread.)

Irish posted about roaches…I offered the addition of bedbugs. That’s hardly a repudiation of the entire city. I believe, though, that coming from Colorado with $1500 the OP will get to experience a part of the city that will leave him retching in disgust.

I am fully aware of the onion and frequent the website often, thats why I said Tounge in Cheek. Not Knowing that you lived in NYC, you came off IMO as hater of NYC…theres more than enough out there.

Yes that was me, another reason why I am finally after 35 years starting to get fed up. Thanks for taking my side. I have since that time reverted to walking sideways once again, its my respectful nature I guess.

When someone says “epidemic” it makes it seem like Bedbugs are everywhere! I have never seen a bedbug in mylife…I guess this is more has to do with my disgust for mainstream media and their fascination with negativity, sensationalism above responsible journalism.

Hey! We have bedbugs here too, ya know.

Great! then Ill finally get to see one!

Complete hijack, but yeah, I work with condominium associations. I regularly have to draft policies and deal with angry owners who are convinced there are bedbugs everywhere. I had one dude who posted nasty defamatory stuff about the condominium board of directors because he said he got bedbugs from his neighbor. The health department came out, and the entire building was clean. Dude was just insane.

Only in Denver, kids.

Well, not really.

Gross.

If following what I want to do in life is retarded than I’m a right wing nut job. I want to move to New York, and the more people tell me I’m not capable of doing it, the more I am driven to succeed. So thanks Prof, you’re helping the cause.
