Embarrassed Guy Log

Fitness365 near the airport in Toronto is not such a bad place. 2 squat racks, and 2 power racks. One of the squat racks was even in use, and the guy doing the squatting had good form. I finished up my meeting around 11:45, and got to the gym an hour later. I had intended on eating first, but got distracted by a phone call on the way there, and forgot. As a consequence, I felt a little empty going in.

WU:
135x5, 195x4, 225x4

Then:
255x3, 290x3, 325x3 (RPR+1); 245x8

And then:
Zerchers: 185x8, 225x6, 245x6
Supersetted with ab rollouts

By this time I was feeling out of gas. Using my auto-regulation skills (or was it just laziness? Such a fine line…), I called it a day, happy to get the reps in. I ordered two plates at a nearby Perkins, gorged myself, and headed to the airport. I didn’t get much sleep the night before, so between the lack of sleep and the gym time, I slept pretty well on the 5 hour flight home.

You sure do travel a lot. Props x2 for getting your work in.

And congrats on the PR!

Busy day today. Dropped the kids off at school, went to the dentist (glad to find I don’t need a root canal), went to the jeweler to have my wedding band enlarged (too many DLs, I suppose), came home, did some work, had a huge lunch,

rushed off to the gym when my wife got back from grocery shopping, went to the jeweler to pick up the ring, picked up my son at school, and came back home. Now I’m packing to take my kids camping tonight. I’m beat already.

Not a stellar session today, either.

MP warmup: 95x6x2, 115x5, 125x3
Working sets: 135x5, 150x3, 170x fail!, 150x3, 135x5

I haven’t failed on any set for a number of months, so this was disappointing. I got 3 reps at 165 last cycle, and 160x4 the cycle before, so I’m going to sit at this weight for another cycle and see what happens. Everything felt heavy today, so hopefully it’s just how the day went.

Followed these up with 3 sets of 8 pullups, some db presses, a set of 100x20 Kroc rows, and some dips. Then I had to boogie.

Hey, it’s Embarassed Guy! Glad to see you back posting. Nice work on the Krocs.

Thanks, Math. Good to be back. Now, wish me luck on the camping. First time out with the boys, and I hope to hake it back again.

EG, my advice on camping, bring beer! 'Nuff said.

Nice work. All the important shit accomplished. And you trained. Nice MP’s and Krocs. These movements sure are popular with us old farts!

Hope the camping went well and you got to relax a bit.
Great job getting the workout worked into such a busy day. Wish I had your energy.

Good looking Krocs, make me think I need to Cowboy up on mine…

Wish I had more time for a couple more sets on those. I also wish my gym had dbs that went higher. Apart from switching gyms (this place is dirt cheap), any other recommendations?

On Krocs, since straps are allowed, using the curls bars as dumbbells works pretty well for 'em. You might need to have the bar at a slight angle so you don’t whack yourself with the plates, but it works. Looks impressive as hell too since you’ll be rowing with one arm what most people can’t curl with two.

I’ll have to think about that one, DAC. If it’s Albino-recommended, it’s certainly worth a try.

OK, deads today. I was feeling a bit sluggish all day, but was happy that I didn’t have to stay late at work video-conferencing with the execs in Asia like I often have to do. I got a bit of a nap on the train home, and, being high-carb day, I loaded up on a chicken breast, spaghetti, AND some sourdough bread. Combined with the huge lunch (today might more appropriately be termed “REALLY high-carb day”), I was feeling pretty good, and driving to the gym I could feel the endorphins begin to kick in. Here’s how it broke down:

warmup: 135x5, 225x5, 275x4, 315x3
deads: 345x5, 390x3, 435x4

weight and rep PR on the last set, so I was happy, though one more would have been nice. I haven’t missed a max dead in a while, and I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s best not to overthink things; just grab the bar and go. I can’t remember the instant the bar leaves the floor, and that’s always where I used to get hung up. Works for me, anyway.

Followed up the above with a superset:

GHR: bw x 10x3
Hanging leg raises: 8x3
Leg press: 8 plates x 10, 10 plates x 8, 12 plates x 6

SFP, good to see you back around here. You’re numbers are looking great. 435x3 on deads is awesome. That must put you up around 500 for a max.

Excellent pulling! Do you pull sumo or conventional?

Conventional. The closest I’ve gotten to sumo is having a sumo friend and watching him train.

Deadlifting 435x4 is outstanding, especially since you’re so old and what all…

Exactly. But hey, being able to hang around young bucks like yourself is the primary reason I come here.

Got back from Dallas last night, ate, and headed to the gym for bench.

Warmup: 135x5, 160x4, 185x3
Working sets: 210x5, 235x3, 265x2 (1 board)

Then followed this up with:
More BB bench: 185x7, x6, x7 (2 25# plates attached with bands)
Pull-ups: bw x 6, bw+25x5, bw+45x5, bw x8
Dips: bw x10, x12, x12
Krocs: 100x22, x16

and incline and BB curls. All in all not too bad, but I felt a little more tired than I thought I would going in. Signs of that old age DAC was talking about, I guess.

Nice work! Bench is looking good. But the pull-ups impress the hell out of me. When I grow up, I want to be able to do pull-ups.

Actually, Strick, not being grown up generally means an increased capacity to do pull-ups.

Or maybe that’s grown out.

At any rate, it has nothing to do with maturity, I can tell you that much.
