I think you are stuck on the word “important”. The US may or may not be more important than any other country in the world, but at times it may act like it is.

I can only paraphrase Tony Blair when he spoke of the inherent “greatness” of America and it’s place in the world. He said (or words to this effect) that he judges the greatness of a country by the number of people trying to get out as compared to the number trying (and dying for that matter) to get in.
As an aside-and this is not a new concept- I am willing to contribute to a collection for all those who want and/or threaten to leave the country in search of a more peaceful place to set up camp. I personally recommend the Ivory Coast, Somalia, North Korea, Mosambique, Columbia, Iran, Iraq, awww heck, any place but in my America! But WAIT! Who would make MOVIES and give us the NEWS? Oh my GOD, we have be stuck watching movies featuring only Bruce Willis, Tom Selleck and Arnold? and watchin Fox News! Hey, that doesn’t sound too bad!
