Electoral Politics: A Losing Game

And this would apply to employers as well?

Depends on the employer, but most people who start a business from the ground up it does not apply to.

I have never been exploited by an employer.

And what are the average hours people work and the average productivity?

TechRepublic reports that the Netherlands has the shortest average workweek of 29 hours, followed by Denmark at 32 hours per week. Countries with the highest average amount of hours worked included:

  • Colombia – 48 hours
  • Turkey – 48 hours
  • Mexico – 45 hours
  • South Africa – 43 hours

Man those democratic socialist countries sure are lazy, especially when compared to those others.

What are the average vacation times taken by the American worker?

How many jobs are they juggling?

Compare them to other workers around the globe. I’m sure you’ll find they aren’t lazy. But when you see those at the top taking the majority of the value produced by the worker, one can understand.

You wouldn’t even be aware of it.

Then how is anyone aware of it?

With the sub-par wages people tend to pay, it flies in the face of your assertion. So let others provide a comfortable living for us.

Yeah because the Netherlands is a bastion of advancement and production

You have obviously never run a business.

Well
you didn’t have to say it specifically. You are big advocate for unions. One of their cornerstones is equity of pay regardless of skill or work ethic. that is “equity of outcome.”

I worked where the union of the mechanics was the IBEW. Everyone got the same hourly wage and guarantied balance of overtime.
About 20% were all about being their best and giving their best to the company.
About 40% were willing to perform fairly well, depending on how they like the management and drag out any job that could lead to overtime.
About 40% should “work” at Starbuck. They were true moochers. Absolutely worthless.

BTW, the last several times I was at Starbucks (quite awhile ago), they had about 6 employees standing around and me at the counter with none of them willing to look in my face. That group of worthless clowns needs a union.

Is this indicative of all or even most Starbucks workers?

Maybe it had to do with the shitty wages?

And one of the cornerstones of a union is balancing out the power, so the owners don’t exploit you.

And yes some unions do suck as the union leaders may be in cahoots with employers.

Not a single one of those had any prayer of getting a better paying job. In fact, very few of the best employees could find a better paying job. It was commonly known as being shackled with golden handcuffs.

Do you suggest I search out another Starbucks store?
It’s too late, we found a little coffee shop that roasts its own coffee beans. Starbucks sells crap coffee by comparison, quite bitter. Do you think I should help support the union?

You’ll have to excuse my friend’s misunderstanding of “entitled.”

No, what I am suggesting is that maybe they don’t give a fuck because of the shit wages they’re paid. Maybe find a union store. And Starbucks provides no golden handcuffs.

You’ll have to excuse this anti-intellectual as he doesn’t know the value of anything.

And why would any coffee shop pay wages any more than an entry level minimum wage job? Sure they would need to pay more for management. Starbucks is riding on their brand. As inflation increases the perceived “need” for foo-foo coffee will begin to become a mere “want.” Good luck not getting laid off.

On the union concept: If your company is becoming too productive there is a sure fix: Unionize the laborers. Now you’ll almost instantly have 40% of your laborers who will be working harder to get out of work than the work they are expected to do. And if they decide they want a benefit that they are “entitled” to have, they will threaten a work stoppage. Here is where you get to shine a little: 40% of the laborers cannot actually do less, the union has facilitated them to be “carried” by those that do produce. Of course you have to live with the fact that 40% of your labor budget you might have just as well set it on fire.

I have seen this garbage in action.

We shall see how the Starbucks business is effected.

If your company is getting too productive give out the shittiest pay raises and use the rest for stock buybacks. An article that surveyed 300 studies on the economic impact of unionization from a global perspective. The authors of the article found, that overall unionization, does not reduce productivity, though it varies according to specific circumstances. Plus they lower the wealth gap.

What you offer is more right-wing garbage talking points. I’ve heard this bullshit before.

Plus zero life experiences with unions?
