So what. Sugar fucks people up too. So do car crashes. And tons and tons of other legal activities. Like football.
I don’t know if you’ve got kids but would you rather your kid had some sugar or a marijuana? I think I know which one I’d be more worried about given what I know about marijuana and sugar respectively

Edit
I’d prefer I had the choice to decide rather than leave it to the state to make those choices for me and my family. And FYI, you are right, for children, I would rank moderate sugar as preferable to pot. But I’d also rank pot as preferable to football as far as risk of severe brain injuries.
But football makes you a man and pot makes you a pothead.

Deftly done SM.

Witticisms aside, I’d still rather have MY choices decide for me and my family than the State so I agree with jackkrash. Besides which there are literally millions of people who are NOT potheads but enjoy an occasional smoke, just as there are millions of people who enjoy drinking beer but don’t go binge drinking or partying…just as there are people who enjoy a cigar on the regular but don’t smoke cigarettes or have a “habit”.

Bottom line, we don’t pick our vices because they are healthy. We pick them because we deem them to enhance our enjoyment of our life, and that is the very definition of “pursuit of happiness”.

OP - I’m just curious. How would you justify legalising LSD on practical grounds. Pretend you’re explaining it to an unenlightened square. Why do we want to do this? What will it achieve practically. And what can we expect from an LSD generation? Is this about turning the country into one big Haight-Ashbury commune or something? What’s the end game here?
Why should the government control what chemicals you choose to ingest into your own body? Particularly, when it’s not an agent that is a precursor to more crime?
Because the damage to the civil society of widely available power hallucinogenic drugs that can cause temporary psychosis, suicide and even long term mental illness in some. Besides, I’m familiar with how Timothy Leary and a number of East German/Stasi moles in the CIA used LSD to subvert the morale and senses of an entire generation. George Soros is continuing the program today by pouring hundreds of millions into drug legalisation programs. That’s the thing about the legalisation movement. It’s not grassroots. Ten years ago no one wanted to legalise pot. And its harmful effects were well understood. But then Soros started funding all these legalisation front groups and over a few years they had programmed half the electorate. Now you get people everywhere just flat out denying all the seriously harmful effects we’ve discovered marijuana to have over the last few decades in particular. Some people just won’t accept it.
We are going to have to agree to disagree here. There are many chemicals, perfectly legal to ingest which cause a variety of damage to the human body and collective society. The line is really fuzzy when you look at what we are allowed legally to ingest and what is illegal to ingest.
We need look no further than the obesity epidemic and food. What are going to do, made food illegal? Or engage in government enforced portion control? I don’t even think I need to mention alcohol. These thing are arguably as dangerous as any drug when abused.
The bottom line is that the government only cares about chemicals that cause pleasure. It doesn’t much matter how damaging a chemical compound can be to the mind and body so long as it does not educe pleasure, it’s ok.
Or we can jump down the rabbit hole of damaging behaviors that stem from sex, for instance. Have you seen anything more insane than ‘people in love’, or in lust?

But what about the high percentage of football players who smoke pot for pain relief and as a way to come down from the enormous rush of practices and games. What does it make them?

I used to smoke pot and train. I had some epic workouts stoned, my concentration was tuned in. I figured the statute of limitations are up on that now so I can say it.

I have had only one concussion in my life when I was a kid and somebody tripped me into a wall at a roller skating rink. I think I recovered from that mostly. Playing football and receiving multiple concussions can fuck up your life pretty significantly. That doesn’t mean if you get a concussion it will fuck up your life, it doesn’t mean that if you play football you automatically get concussions or any combination there of. Seems sad I had to make that so clear…
Anyway, just saying everything has risks and not one is necessarily better than another.

Yes, and you should have stopped right there…marijuana is not nearly on the same level as LDS and shrooms…not even close bud.
I haven’t met too many guys from Utah who claim the LDS is worse than pot and should be banned. You must have some stories to tell.

Whilst in college I could smoke a bowl and go to class, drive safely, go out with friends and have normal conversations…the times I tried LSD…well lets just say social interaction and driving were NOT on the menu.
Look closer at the initials in your original post.

Re: LSD, I agree driving is tough when the steering wheel melts and runs down the seat and drips into the back seat and the hood extends several hundred feet in front of you. And the swarms of rabid bats don’t make it any easier.
Don’t drive trippin’. If you do, keep it on the black part.

I’d rather they smoke pot than drink and I have a kid in college. A bunch of dudes sitting in a room eating pizza and saying ‘duuude’ is better than them getting drunk and fucking some ugly chick they never met before.

Eh, I don’t see any Earth shattering info here. The overall risks are still pretty minimal in correlation with other vices. The affects on the brain according to the study are on par with trait stress as it pertains to physical changes in the right amygdala and grey matter density. As far as vices go, pot is pretty safe. You can certainly do worse to yourself with legal substances or activities. If you want a safer hallucinogenic vice, then perhaps LSD or psilocybin is the way to go

Um, this is not a large scale study and it does not show increased rates of any mental illness in pot smokers.

“Marijuana participants were not excluded if they had used other illegal drugs in the past…”
