Election Day Thread

Oh man. You crazy paddy, that’s dedication! Kudos to you sir, I hope to hell you can work after this without dying of fatigue

That’s why I specifically mentioned that the pendulum can swing back.

I simply do not believe in the premise that there is some inexorable march towards “progress”.

Things can change at any moment, and the gains you’ve made must be fought for with tooth and nail.

Oh, I took the day off work to look at how it turns out. I intend the US to be my future home, after all.

This is only partially in jest, by the way. I have been trying to convince my girlfriend that Utah is our future home for months

Utah is a beautiful place. Hiking, skiing. A lot of nice people.

Come on over.

I think fighting tooth and nail causes this reaction. At least if that includes demonizing white working class people. Progress doesn’t have to include vitriol. I’m pretty sure most of us are quite willing to call people of difference races “brother.” Trump is seen best as a break on PC, open borders, and using “white male” as an epithet. No f’ing way he gets support for a Muslim ban or a wall. I’m highly progressive from an intellectual standpoint but I’ve been cringing through Hilary this election as much as I have to Trump.

I am very happy to hear both of those things! Come on over!

We are exactly as crazy as they say, but even more fun than crazy.

Hey man, I am an LLB with a love of US politics, I am not in your intellectual weight class. But it is good to know that people would look forward to one more Mick in the US.

Looking forward to convincing her to do so.

I agree.

By “fighting tooth and nail”, I mean fighting against towards who seek to take away that which the minorities have gained through the decades.

I most certainly do not mean that you should demonize your opponents. It just doesn’t work from an argumentative stand-point.

I disagree with you here.

He most certainly does get support for those things. Just how much, and just how much of that actually influenced his (apparent) victory is uncertain, but it’s true.

Among other things, I fear that the Republican Party turned a blind eye to its subset of racists and nationalists. They revealed themselves this election cycle, and Trump supported them.

What will happen next is anyone’s guess, but I think it really needs to be clear that there is a definite subset in the Republican Party that poses a grave threat to the minorities in this country.

What does November 9 look like ?

One more? Hell, there are more micks here than there are over there!

(I’m one of them)

Republicans officially keep the Senate.

Pandemonium as the BLM attempts to assassinate Donald Trump and wage mass warfare against whites all over the country.

Or the white nationalists attempt to assassinate Hillary Clinton and wage mass warfare against Democrats all over the country.

Depends on who finally wins!

Are there really that many racists and nationalists to worry about? Or was it just the media/dems making it a bigger issue than it really is to score points for their side?

Much more. Happy to be in the club if I make it!

I think either Michigan or Pennsylvania will put Trump over 270.

I don’t know how many there are.

I don’t think it particularly matters. Far more relevant to me is that so many Republicans turned a blind eye to its existence in an attempt to beat Clinton.

Well, it appears that they’ve beat Clinton. What’s next?

Really, the next four years is a gigantic unknown right now, besides that this election seems to have been the prelude to a reckoning.

I really hope that reckoning actually does comes, and I REALLY hope that the end result falls in my favor.

Regardless of the outcome I hope the popular vote at least matches the electoral. I don’t want to hear complaining about that the next 4 years.

Absolutely.

If Trump wins, then he must win both the electoral votes AND the popular.

Otherwise the Democrats have a stupid “out”.

Google currently has Trump winning the popular vote-
