Elbow Height in Zercher Squat vs Zercher Carry?

Should the aim always to keep your elbows up and in line with shoulder? or in the squat y can you drop them down?

They should be high (to increase core, shoulders and upper back activity) BUT not too high. If they get too high a lot of people will overarch their lower back and lean back
