Eddie Hall 500 kg Deadlift

It is sad that this is the most action the strongman section has seen in a while. I honestly miss when things were just organized as “strength sports” on the site, and the strongman, powerlifters and weightlifters all got together to talk shop. Powerlifting is the most active sub, and even it can go a day or so without a post, and weightlifting is like SUPER dead. Meanwhile, we all have some stuff we can contribute to each other.

The answer to this for all 3 sports is celebrating the milestones like this. Few people respect the “history of the game” so to speak when it comes to strength sports. If you don’t have a big name, an e-book, or a big sponsorship noone cares to know who you are. I just posted in PL today about the 242 raw total WORLD RECORD being broken. Zero replies, Im assuming because it wasn’t a big name guy to do it.

Honestly as crazy awesome as this is, probably not that much. Hall is the king of the deadlift and log press for sure, but there’s always someone who beats him out in all the other stuff whether it be explosive (keg toss) speed work (medleys) or endurance (truck/boat/plane/empire state building pull). Further, over the last few years he seems to be playing to his strengths more and more with his size, not worrying so much about staying a little leaner for the added speed or stamina which appears to me to have slowed him down a bit more. At the end of the day, if you shoot to get as bulky as a guy like shaw at a good bit shorter of a height then it stands to reason shaw will be more athletic, if not as strong on the deadlifts.

I beg to differ about Hall being the king of the log press.
The world record is held by Zydrunas Savickas.

Regarding training for the WR DL, Hall said a few places he trained the DL every other week because of the recovery demands and the week off he did assistance work. He said his goal was to do speed reps with 465 (!!!). If he could move the bar quickly at 465 he knew he could pull 500. Looking at the longer video of all three competitors…is scary. 465 is like an empty bar almost.

Actual information about the training!

Specifically the speed pulls and rest days that Hall mentioned himself!

Sets of 10, “lighter,” and speed pulls “heavier.” Do we know anything else about the structure of the training? What reps on the speed pulls? Did Hall do speed pulls and rep work in the same workout, or alternate week to week, or do “blocks?”

Okay cunt-er lol. Discrediting someone’s work by going to something so shallow is ridiculous. If it’s all gear and no work how come he’s breaking a world record? Shouldn’t Brian Shaw or hell even Phil Heath be able to 500kg since they’re on gear too? Discrediting his work because he chose to take advantage of the science around him? Really? So calculators are cheating too right, since it’s a tool that makes math easier? No. You still have to put in the work regardless. Nattys have a messed up perception of gear lmao. Betas man.

Yeah, the IPF has done a good job at making powerlifting more entertaining. However, I definitely agree that strongman is more entertaining. Especially watching people like Hall, Shaw, and of course BIG Z!
