Economic Education: Get Some!

Except those tens of thousands that die every year. They may have a different opinion.

And neither are the tens of thousands of deaths that occur every year.

Did you happen to experience an N.D.E.?

I notice you concentrate on Canada. What could they be doing wrong and other countries doing right?

Why couldn’t we learn from them?

Like i said…you think it is sooooo bad here…why are youuuuuuu still here

They may experience a lack of health care for any number of reasons. Not all of them strictly financial.

Regardless of why, when one goes in through the ER they aren’t turned away. In fact, the couple of times I’ve gone in for trauma/critical care, I wasnt asked about anything until I was at least out of the ICU.

Nah. I just blipped out like turning off the TV.

No super powers either. I still need a remote to change channels, and can’t even read my own mind.

And like I said…fuck off asshole! I was born here and have a right to try and change what I think is wrong. Should all of those people who complained about child labor, should they have just left, if they didn’t like it?

Doesn’t change the death count.

And this costs a lot more. I was under the impression you were a fiscal conservative. Why can’t they just go and see a doctor, like people in many other countries, before things get bad enough to go to an ER?

After I posted the question about the possibility of an NDE, I realized how stupid it was because if you had an NDE there would be no way you would post the things you do.

As long as their are individuals who are living pretty well off of the great USA’s system and bitching about it and wanting to make it worse…there will always be someone like me telling you to go live in that other system that you speak so highly of and then come back and tell us how great it was…otherwise, you are just a hypocrite

I don’t share the optimism here for the USA’s system, but since i have not yet seen what appears to be a truly viable alternative, I work with what we have. At times it really sucks. I am diabetic and have higher healthcare costs than many my age, but it is what it is.
When a viable alternative presents itself (this does not include single -payer as that has many flaws too), I would gladly advocate for it.

Do you think it’s reasonable to attribute some of this to personal decisions? America is the 12th fattest country in the world, and the 11 that precede it have lesser populations combined than most states.

The leading cause of death in the US is Heart Disease, which is primarily caused by being to fat. Other causes underlined below have a high likelihood of correlating to being too fat as well.

Do we attribute these deaths to the “lack of healthcare”? Or should we be more honest in saying that the US has poor healthcare outcomes mostly due to making piss poor lifestyle choices?

Judging a system based on outcomes alone is a very poor metric… We should be considering the inputs to this system too, but that would require us to have “personal responsibility” - a notion that terrifies the wealthiest country in the world.

There is also an argument to say that increased govt spending on national health insurance (obamacare) raises health insurance costs on private employees tremendously, which it has in my experience. I’d rather not get into this subject as I don’t have the time or will to debate the merits of a 20,000 page pork-barrel document (ACA).

:crossed_fingers: please bring up stem cells. Please bring up stem cells :crossed_fingers:

its not a perfect system, but imho its the best in the world

are you type1 or type2?

are their lifestyles change you can revise to become non-diabetic?

Type 2 but I am one of the few who get that one not from lifestyle changes. One year I was fine (fasting glucose 80) next year check fasting glucose was 300! Multiple doctors told me that there was no way that jump was due to lifestyle (and I had only gained about 10 lbs). It runs in my family (paternal grandmother and all ten of her siblings had it, father has it, aunt got after cancer treatment).

It stay better watching diet and making sure I exercise. I have it technically controlled now, but I am insulin dependent due to previous pancreatitis preventing me from taking things like Victoza.

Best I can do is control it currently.

Yep that sucks

Why?

Other than emotional uninformed outrage.

Have you ever even looked at the statistics on deaths for the weapons you are mentioning?

And what weapons are you referring to exactly?

The people that speak the loudest about banning weapons are always those that know absolutely FUCKING NOTHING about them.

Now theres a first!

Does the thought of a cold and indifferent universe bother you? The fact that when you cease to exist your energy dissipates into its surroundings? No Santa God to embrace your entitled little soul, no happily ever after.

Well sorry bub! I dont owe you any nice little stories of a happily ever after. Your suffering here is futile. And when it ends? NOTHING.

Just an icy slide into non-existence.

You self centered little shit worm. The only reason you even asked was for your own comfort.

I really hope this is the case. One existence is enough for me.

At least you’re making the most of it. :+1:

I kinda despise these types who feel that their lack is some kind of piety, then they indignantly wield it at others who don’t feel the same way.

No one is saying there aren’t any problems within that system. The question is it better than what we have right now? All the evidence says yes it is better.

Not so says the thousands who’ve experienced NDE’s. But maybe they’re all lying to try and get a book deal.

It is fucking garbage overall but perfect for CEO’s and shareholders. They can make others suffer and die for profit.
