So a quick question, lets say my RDA is 2500, and until 6 pm i have eaten 2000 calories, now at 6 i decide to go for a 40 mins run, “heres my question” is it ok to eat the remaning 500 calories at night"by night i mean sometime between 8 and 10" given its all carbs? or will it change to fat?
I’ve had many instances where I accidentally underate during a contest prep, and found myself eating a ton of almond butter at night just to make my #s for the day. Not a bad thing at all, and certainly not going to hurt your progress one bit.

ah, so if someones RDA is 2500 to go on a cut , and your “lets say” 800 calories short and you recompensated with fat or carbs, the later wont effect your progress one bit?

If your short 800 calories, and you eat 400 right before bed, your still in a calorie deficit. Sure nutrient timing is helpful (some argue how helpful) but the basics still apply: if calories in < calories out, you’ll lose weight.

Nope, it’s a bit more complicated than that. It’s not simply the law of thermodynamics at work here, but a matter of maintaining metabolic speed, and hormonal profiles while still getting adequate nutrients to support muscle tissue. Especially if you’re doing any type of cyclical dieting, you need the higher days to get the better metabolic effect from the lower ones. So even if you’re full on a higher day, if you’ve got more to eat in order to hit your #s, do it!
I’m not a real body builder or even an athlete these days but I have been over 200 lbs in single digit body fat levels at 6’.
I never worried much about specific macro counts and focused on calorie amounts with a demonized well balanced diet including grains.
As long as I stuck to my lifting routine, did some cardio and ate every three to four hours, including at bed time, I was fine.
One of my favorite meals was spaghetti and meatballs. I loved eating it around 7 for dinner, again at bedtime and then for breakfast the next morning.
Who knows, maybe I could’ve been even leaner had I dieted differently but measurements were showing I hovered around 8-10% body fat.
After eating a shitload of spaghetti though, I definitely had more energy at the gym for a couple days which allowed me to lift longer and harder, run harder and further and effectively build by body more.
I think the “don’t eat after a certain time” dogma is geared to fat Joe Blows with a shitty diet already who eat junk at bed time just because it tastes good.

I agree with the other posts. Eating before bed is not a bad idea. All the times I went to bed on an empty stomach I didn’t sleep as well. Not sleeping enough can result in fat/water gain.

Unless you’re have an ultra high carb day, a meal doesn’t consist of mostly carbs. A bagel isn’t a meal. An apple isn’t a meal. A bowl of cereal isn’t a meal.
A bagel with tuna salad is a meal. An apple and a cup of cottage cheeee is a meal. Scrambled eggs and cereal is a meal.
You’ll get fat if your total caloric amount exceeds your maintenance amount. Other things come into play, but that’s all someone like you needs to know for now considering your post indicates you need some nutrition education overall.

Tonight I will most likely drink more beers than I should and eat a frozen pizza maybe an hour before I pass out around 11. Tragically, I do this too often and I never, ever gain one ounce of fat. I do notice that if I eat late (even without drinking) I don’t feel as sharp or energetic the following day. If I cram all my calories in before 8 or so I usually feel great the next day.

Honestly over a week’s time I prolly eat right at maintenance. Over some days and under on others. It’s just my metabolism, how efficiently or inefficiently i absorb calories, yada yada yada.
