Loving one’s country is fine but to put an ism on it turns it into dogmatic thinking which leads to the situations we are fighting against currently.
There is no one definition for patriotism–how does one express the feelings one has for something as large and abstract as the USA and is there only one way to do this. I love my country like I love my job. It has it’s good points and its bad and I would quickly turn my back on it if I felt it was doing me or my family harm. Being patriotic means you put your country before your self and everything associated with the self. This seems irrational to me as nations are dynamic and subject to change–why would I commit myself to that?
